Lets add to that the proposed $1.00 a gal tax hike.

Yep...they could just pass a carbon tax to accomplish the same goal. But if they do cap and trade, it can't be repealed because then you have to buy back all the permits and credits from industry instead of just repealing the tax. Plus cap and trade requires a large, intrusive enforcement mechanism to make sure nobody's cheating. That means more government control.
