Default Dwight Reportedly Signs with Jets

Dwight reportedly bypasses Steelers, signs with Jets

By The Tribune-Review
Wednesday, March 22, 2006

Although the New York Jets would not confirm it late Tuesday night, the team reportedly signed veteran New England Patriots wide receiver/kick returner Tim Dwight yesterday.
Dwight, who visited the Steelers yesterday afternoon, is an eight-year veteran out of Iowa. He was viewed by the Steelers as a partial replacement for Antwaan Randle El, who signed with the Washington Redskins 10 days ago.

Dwight averaged 8.5 yards on 32 punt returns last season, including four that went for 20 yards or more. In his career, he has averaged 9.7 yards on 162 career punt returns. He's taken three back for touchdowns, including a long of 84.

He'd previously played for the San Diego Chargers and Atlanta Falcons. As an Atlanta rookie in 1998, Dwight returning a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown in Super Bowl XXXIII against the Denver Broncos.

Dwight did not speak to reporters when he exited the Steelers offices at 4 p.m.

I agree - everyone talks about replacing ARE, but the greater WR need is to get a big downfield threat.
