I think he's a first ballot guy, I'm already planning on being back in Canton next August.

That was a magical season. Something from almost every game stands out.

Knowing that the season ended with The Steelers in #36’s home town of Detroit, and knowing the Super Bowl was in the Motor City that year, I think we all had dreams of glory going into that season. What if…

Some things I remember:

Week 1 – Titans W 34-7 Willie Parker for 161 yards in NFL debut.
Week 6 – Jaguars L (OT) 23-17 One Word … Tommy Maddox
Week 12 Colts L 26-7 M. Harrison torches Ike for 80 yards on first play
Week 13 Bengals L 38-31 T.J. and the Towel Stomp
Week 14 Bears W 21-9 Bettis with 101 yds, 6 for TD directly over Urlacher
Week 15 Vikings W 18-3 The safety reminded me of IX (our first)
Week 16 Browns W 41-0
Week 17 Detroit W 35-21 Maybe Bettis’ last game in home town. Nice story.
AFC WC Bengals W 31-17 Kimo vs. Palmer. Bummer, but Kitna did well.
AFC Div Colts W 21-18 The Tackle, The stabbed Harper, Vaderjagt miss
AFC Conf Broncos W 34-17 Mighty Champ Bailey beat in the corner.

We all know the next game.

Bettis in the HoF, oh yeah. I believe his stats warrant it, but PR would be great too.
Nice work crack!

I say first ballot for sure. It's not just the stats, which he has. He is and was a character, he won it all and went out on top, and in his hometown, no less. The whole storybook aspect to it will push him over the top.

Speaking of Bettis memories, does everyone remember his first game against the Rams as a Steeler? That was a thing of beauty. There was fancy footwork and raw power, just bowling people over. He was running like a man possessed. Nice. If anyone finds clips, please link here.

There's a lot of really high quality hall of fame players that are first year eligible with Bettis, including Marshall Faulk, Curtis Martin and Deion Sanders.

Players who are nominated this year but this isn't their first year eligible: Phil Simms, Terrel Davis, Eddie George, Gerald Riggs, Tim Brown, Cris Carter, Gary Anderson, Kevin Greene.

Bettis's chance of getting in first year ballot is against him right now.

Agree on all points. I say he gets voted in first ballot as well.

I don't remember the game specifically, but I remember seeing clips and hearing Bettis talk about it during his episode of "In Their Own Words".

I could not find a clip of that game, or a small youtube clip of Bettis' episode, but you can watch the whole thing on Hulu.

I think he's unique enough being uncharacteristically large for a RB yet somehow lasting as long as he did that he'll get in for sure.

Tomlinson, unless he gets injured or really goes down hill fast, will probably pass him up though and push him to #6 as soon as this season.

Not the first ballot but he is HOF as one of the top ten RBs of all time.
