I think Goodell is worried about legal ramifications if they don't try to better protect the players.

Something, somewhere is gonna happen where, god forbid, a player is not only paralyzed but might die on the field and if the league offices didn't try to prevent that, then it will seriously come back to bite them in the ass.

It was a freak weekend that started all this, but it's all on tape.

Don't think a lawyer wouldn't bring that into court to ask why something wasn't done about it.

^^^ This.

Although I do enjoy the conspiracy theories.

Good call

Keith Brooking of the Cowboys had the same observations in an interview with Peter King several weeks ago:

"There is no way you can prevent some of those hits from happening,'' Cowboys linebacker Keith Brooking said from Dallas Thursday night. "I know the Competition Committee has guys who know the game. I know [NFL VP of Operations] Ray Anderson, and I respect him. But this, to me, is a political agenda. They're trying to protect themselves. I agree with the emphasis on player safety, but let's face it: It's inevitable that someone's going to get hurt really bad out there. When? I don't know. But it's going to happen.''

Goodell's go to guy on this , Ray Anderson, is an attorney, not a former NFL player. Former NFL executives who were players, such as Gene Washingtona nd Art Shell, are gone. Your approach to resolving an issue is based upon your expertise and the officials in the league office, for better or worse, obviously are concerned about what they see as potential liability issues.

I'm glad Troy spoke up. It needed said by somebody else.
Goodell is turning the league into flag football, picking and choosing who they fine (that's just plain wrong....), and has just been bad for the game all-around.

That said....pick up a pen, Troy....you're gonna get fined for this one (from a fine-happy Goodell office). This just gives them another reason to fine someone and corral someone from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Isn't it about time the owners, collectively, band together and say "hey, this guy's ruining the game, really. We need him to go."

I hope Troy doesn't get fined or suspended for bringing embarrassment to the shield. He speaks the truth.
