Default Blitz Packages?

Where the hell are our blitz packages? We've played two games in a row where I've seen the nickle damn near the whole game. At what point do you see a quarterback sit in the pocket, with no pressure, make 8 yard passes the whole game and not adjust? On top of all of this the mighty nickle brings William Gay to the field to only be lit up time and time again.

This team holds a kicker accountable , but everyone else including coaches get a free pass. I expect stuff like this from Arians. It's hard to see Coach Lebeau calling such vanilla defense.

we really had no answer for the pats. every time we sent the blitz brady always got rid of it before any defender could get a sniff, or the blitz would be picked up and he'd have 5+ seconds to throw the ball anyway. what could we have done? we were just outplayed by a better team, period.

as much as i hate to say it, we ain't that good right now.

I really think the Steelers didn't blitz as much because they we're afraid of giving up huge plays, huge plays as in 20+ yards. Lebeau knows that he can't trust the Seconday without Polamalu to stop the quick short passes which result in huge yardage. If you rush and put Polamalu in the mix then there's going to be a problem.

I also got to hand it to the Pats O-Line for being smart and stopping Woodley and Harrison

to a degree I agree with this. But if Lebeau didn't trust his DB's and their bend but not break D was getting lit up all night without a quality stop, why in the hell did he not even try the Blitzburg approach? That was not us out there on that field. There was no passion, no intensity, no qb scrambling and I've seen Barbie scramble and play after being hit. He loses his cool. Look at what missing a 3rd down did to him. If we get burned by the own sword that got us where we are, then so be it. To play like that was falling into the same old Brady trap that has killed us so often. And from what I read, All of us Pittsburghers have pegged our coordinators for underperforming. Especially Arians. Ben has really let us down after this team fought their asses off wtihin 32 seconds from 4-0......If he continues on this pace, that girl in Atlanta should even ask for her money back.

We are gonna have to take the leash off of polamalu and let him free lance like he does...when you have him JUST play safety he is just average or non existent,,,Dear Mr Lebeau.....

When Farrior and Timmons/Foote do the cross is the only dynamic blitz I've seen the Steelers do this season.
LeBeau had both Woodley and Harrison on the same side blitzing against the Bengals, but he hasn't done it again. Gay and BMac have had some successful blitzes.
But these are the only exotic blitz packages I've noticed LeBeau using this year, everything else is just basic Harrison and Woodley blitzing from the outside, occasionally blitzing Farrior or Timmons or Troy.

it's been the same story the entire decade with the Patriots and Brady. we have no answer for whatever they do on offense. just hope we don't have to face them again in the playoffs.

polamalu has an achilles injury, and while troy at 80% is better than just about every other safety in the league he is not at the level we are accustomed to seein (and im talking about a lawrence taylor level where he can compkletely dominate and dictate a game).

as for the blitz's i think people are losing sight of dick lebeaus core philosophy whith his fire zone "blitz". it is about creating maximum pressure while sending minimum blitzers and having as much coverage in zones as possible.

it is the most proven way to get after the passer while hedging your "bets" and having maximum coverage behind the line.

we are not a team that sends 5-7 guys on every single play. never have been, never will be.
