Default Scouting the officials

Scouting the officials

It’ll be interesting to see how close the officials call the always hard-hitting showdown between the Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Based on the numbers of Terry McAulay’s crew, it’s difficult to predict whether the officials will let these AFC North rivals play.

McAulay’s officiating group has called the fifth-fewest penalties in the NFL this season (134 in 10 games). This crew has flagged unnecessary roughness and roughing the passer six times each – both of which rank in the middle of the pack.

McAulay hasn’t officiated a Ravens game since September 2009, when the Ravens routed the Cleveland Browns, 34-3. The Ravens were penalized eight times for 84 yards in that game.

It would be nice if, at the end of the game, neither team feels like they got ripped off by the officials.
