Default Steelers cautious of a 'desperate' Jets team

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Steelers cautious of a 'desperate' Jets team

By Scott Brown
Sunday, December 19, 2010

The New York Jets lug a two-game losing streak into Heinz Field, and free safety Ryan Clark said the Steelers are aware of the mindset coach Rex Ryan's team will take into today's 4:15 p.m. game.

"That's sometimes the worst team to play, a team that can be desperate," Clark said.

The Jets (9-4) have to right themselves quickly or find themselves in a battle to make the playoffs.

That's because they play at Chicago (9-4) next Sunday, leaving a real possibility of entering the season's final week with a 9-6 record.

"Whenever you play this kind of game, it's very similar to a Baltimore-style of game, very similar to a playoff mentality-type of game," Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu said. "You can never let any splash plays happen because that one splash play is the difference between winning and losing."

The Steelers (10-3) clinch a playoff berth with a win today.

They can qualify for the postseason with a loss but need the Indianapolis Colts to lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Kansas City Chiefs to lose to the St. Louis Rams.

A win and a Ravens loss to the New Orleans Saints would give the Steelers a two-game lead in the AFC North with two to play.
