http://content.usatoday.com/communit...-qb-coach/1The Baltimore Ravens fired QB coach Jim Zorn on Thursday, ESPN and the Baltimore Sun reported.
Zorn, the former head coach of the Washington Redskins, joined the Ravens last summer. Under his tutelage, Ravens QB Joe Flacco reached career highs in passing yards (3,622), TD passes (25) and passer rating (93.6), and a career low in INTs (10). The former QB coach for the Seattle Seahawks (where Zorn spent most of his playing career as a QB), Zorn went 12-20 in two seasons as Redskins head coach. -Believe I heard that they also fired their o-line coach too. Don't understand why they fired Zorn honest. |

Fired for being unable to make chicken salad out of chickens**t at the QB position for the Ravens
Zorn's release came after a seven-hour meeting with coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron in which they questioned Joe Flacco's development this season, the source said. Zorn stayed with Harbaugh and Cameron at Ravens headquarters while the rest of the staff attended the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. The Ravens hired Zorn on Jan. 30, 2010 to replace Hue Jackson, who left to become the Oakland Raiders' offensive coordinator. Zorn had just been fired as the Washington Redskins head coach after the 2009 season. In his only season as the Ravens quarterbacks coach, Zorn was known for his quirky drills. Compared to 2009, Flacco’s touchdowns (25) and quarterback rating (93.6) increased this year, his interceptions (10) decreased and his passing yards (3,622) remained essentially the same. Zorn becomes the second offensive coach fired by the Ravens this offseason, joining offensive line coach John Matsko http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/spor..._qb_coach.html Not a happy time in Charm City - Steelers going to Dallas must be killing Harbaugh |

The Ravens are almost like a college team that measures the success of its season by how it performs against its main conference rival
By that measure Flacco played well in one game and fell apart in the next two - Ravens care what happens in December and January, not whether Flacco has a 125 passer rating with 3 TDs in October against some out of division punching bag Flacco played worse in Pittsburgh 2 weeks ago than he did in the AFC championship 2 years ago and that got Zorn fired, just as the D coordinator was not talked out of going to Michigan after the 3rd and 19 play when the Ravens rushed 3 and still got beat deep |

Sounds like Joe Flacco is not happy about the Zorn canning reflecting poorly upon his performance this past season
“I’m not happy about it, and they know I’m not happy about it,” Flacco told Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times.... “I also feel like a little bit like I’m being attacked,” Flacco said. “You fire the quarterback coach. Usually when your fire a position coach, it’s because you’re not really happy with how that position did. And when I look back on my season and our season as a team, I mean, we won 13 games. I felt like I had a pretty good year and you’re firing the quarterback coach? It’s kind of an attack on me, I feel like. “You know, it is what it is. It’s not that big of a deal for me to feel like it. I’m not happy about it. They know that I’m not happy about it. It’s not news to them. They know I’m not happy about it, and my feelings aren’t going to change. I’m not going to be happy about it, for a long time. This year will be what it is. We’re going to be successful this year. I would have just liked him to be a part of it. He would have liked to be a part of it. And I think it would have been good for him to be a part of it.”. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...iring-of-zorn/ Sad times in Charm City - I guess this means Harbaugh and Flacco will not be attending the same Super Bowl party to watch the Steelers play next Sunday |

i thought so too. they're expecting too much out of him though. flacco will be a good qb no doubt, but i don't think he has what it takes to be elite. you only can coach up a player so much, either they have it or they don't

I guess it was Jim Zorn and Flacco's fault Blind Side couldn't protect his, well, his Blind Side. And its also Zorn and Flacco's fault that Boldin and TJ dropped passes.

The Baltimore Sun was griping all season about Flacco's pocket presence and ball security (Flacco also got stripped in the Chiefs playoff game) - that is something the QB coach presumably would work on - since the Ravens season potentially turned on the Polamalu strip sack (Ravens hold on to win that game they would have won the division and a first round bye) Flacco not protecting the ball was a big deal
