Twitter: No surprise but Pittsburgh will place its franchise tag on LB LaMarr Woodley. It has until Feb. 23 to do so.

Agreed - $$ freed up with Smith, Ward, and Farrior retiring after 2011, but FAs after next season will be a franchised Woodley, Timmons, and Polamalu

yeah, thats all going to amount to big big $$$$. I don't think they'll throw the Armored truck at Polamalu again considering his age, but might on a one year or two year. Who knows.

Nada, nothing, but the draft. No player trades for picks or any of that stuff.....till the end of August, most likely.

this whole franchise tag thing is a very gray area, as i learned listening to pat kirwan today.

if woodley (and all the others) are franchised by th owners, that is guaranteed money. even if there is a lockout, that money is still guaranteed.

in theory, the player has every right to go and collect his paycheck even if there are no games played.

what the owners are doing is perplexing. they wanna use the franchise tag even though there is really no such thing as a franchise tag w/o a CBA in place, yet they certainly dont wanna own up to their end of the bargain and pay a player the guranteed amount if there are no games played.

even the "experts" cant wrap their heads around this one....
