I actually just heard a somewhat related news story on the radio this afternoon.
There was a man who long ago predicted that a computer would be the chess champion of the world by 1998. He was laughed at and it seemed totally ridiculous. A computer became the world chess champion in 1997. He is now predicting that in 2029 a computer will be able to pass the Turing Test. That means we will be able to have a conversation with a computer and we will not be able to recognize any differences from a human conversation. Kinda creepy eh?
