LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The Las Vegas deputy district attorney who prosecuted Paris Hilton for cocaine possession was arrested over the weekend after allegedly buying a rock of cocaine, authorities said on Monday.

Clark County Deputy District Attorney David Schubert, 47, was taken into custody in Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon and booked on one count of cocaine possession.

Schubert, who has prosecuted Hilton and pop star Bruno Mars on similar charges, was released on Sunday after posting bail and was scheduled for an initial court appearance on Monday.

"I'm very disappointed to learn one of our prosecutors was allegedly buying rock cocaine," Clark County District Attorney David Roger told Reuters in a telephone interview. "This is an individual I placed a great deal of trust in by assigning him to a state and federal drug task force."

"That said, he was arrested and he will be charged and prosecuted like any other individual," he said. "We believe no one is above the law, including a deputy district attorney."

MONTICELLO, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a New York man appearing before a judge on a felony drunken driving charge arrived at court an hour and a half late, drunk and carrying an open can of Busch beer.

Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty says Keith Gruber of Swan Lake had four unopened beer cans in his bag Monday when he tried to walk through the metal detector at the county courthouse.

The Middletown Times Herald-Record reports that Judge Frank LaBuda asked the 49-year-old Gruber if he enjoyed his "liquid lunch." Gruber said he did, then said he was sorry. The judge revoked his bail and sent him to jail, where he remained Tuesday.

Gruber was arrested Dec. 27 in the town of Liberty and was out on $30,000 cash bail. He has prior DWI convictions.

A Chinese man spent 55 years with the opening to his rectum in the wrong place. That's an unusually long time to live without a normal anus.

He had a relatively common birth defect known as imperforate anus, a condition in which one out of every 5,000 infants is born with a misplaced, blocked, or missing rectal opening. The problem occurs slightly more frequently in boys than girls, and its cause is unknown.

Surgeons typically repair the abnormality during infancy. Unfortunately for Wu, a Chinese farmer from Hubei Province, he couldn't afford this operation until middle age.

So, how did he move his bowels for more than half a century?

"Wu endured a .5 centimeter diameter surgical hole, or stoma, near his urethra for excrement, through which he could squeeze stools out with his hands," according to a story originally reported in the Wuhan Morning News.

It sounds gross, but medically speaking, he had a colostomy, a procedure that created a less than 1/4-inch wide "surgical hole," which substituted as his anus. This opening was located closer to his scrotum in a more forward position on his body than rear. Colostomy is the first stage of a two-part operation needed to correct imperforate anus.

Still, it's an awfully messy -- and weird -- way to go to the bathroom. Although living this way wasn't easy, he made do. "Wu had to pay attention to the food he ate, avoid constipation and was a frequent user of laxatives," explains the newspaper account. "The dilemma left him very thin but it did not prevent him [from] getting married and having children."

This January, the poor fellow finally saved up enough money so a surgeon could give him something he had waited a lifetime for -- an anatomically correct anus.

"What I find most unique about this case is that this gentleman went for more than five decades without getting proper treatment," says Dr. Rafael Pieretti, chief of pediatric urology at MassGeneral Hospital for Children in Boston. "In developed countries, children have imperforate anus surgically repaired within the first year of life." In fact, surgery to correct a less-serious form of the abnormality can be done by any pediatric surgeon; the more complicated cases go to pediatric urologists like Pieretti.

Fortunately for Wu, within three days of the operation, he reportedly "could excrete like normal people."

Christian women in a small town in Texas are learning to pole dance for Jesus.

The class is held for free twice a month on Sundays and is taught by Crystal Dean, a former stripper, who now teaches pole fitness to Christian women who are required to bring their church programs with them if they want to join the class, ABC News said.

Dean meets the women in the dance studio, Best Shape of your Life, in Old Town Spring, Texas, The Los Angeles Times said. Her classes use upbeat contemporary Christian music and the routine is intended, as ABC News said, “to spin without the sin for the Lord.”

Dean said, “God gives us these bodies, and they are supposed to be our temples and we are supposed to take care of them, and that’s what we are doing,” according to ABC News.

Dean told The Los Angeles Times, “It’s fitness. I don’t teach women to be strippers.” Pole dancing is now taught in many gyms, but Dean’s class revolves more around a church theme and she sees it as “continuing the whole worship thing.”

Her students agree that Pole Fitness for Jesus is another means to worship God and to express their faith. Tiffany Booth, one of Dean’s students, told ABC News, “I do feel a spiritual connection whenever you have the music on and it’s singing about lifting you up and being closer to God. You do feel that.”

Dean told The Los Angeles Times that if people wanted to judge her, that would be up to them but, “I’m good with God.”
