A tsunami is brutal, there is nothing those people could do. A wave of water coming at 500 mph is incredible, but there are plenty of things you can do to prepare for earthquakes. I have plenty of supplies set aside for the big one. Me and my family will be able to survive until help can get here no problem.

While I don't think you should live in fear, you should be prepared for the situation if you live in an area of danger. That being said, the same could be said about any part of the country; snow storms, ice storms, flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes, it's all very real.

That would have to be a huge one. But something tells me if the western third of the nation fell into the ocean, life would suck for you all.

Japan Rattled by Aftershock One Month After Massive Quake, Tsunami

SENDAI, Japan -- A strong new earthquake rattled Japan's northeast Monday as the government urged more people living near a tsunami-crippled nuclear plant to leave, citing concerns about long-term health risks from radiation.

The magnitude 7.0 aftershock came just hours after people bowed their heads and wept in somber ceremonies to mark a month since a massive earthquake and tsunami that killed up to 25,000 people and set off a crisis of radiation leaks at the nuclear plant by knocking out its cooling systems.

They raised the nuclear crisis level from 5 to 7. It's now equal to Chernobyl.

The Japanese government's nuclear safety agency has decided to raise the crisis level of the Fukushima Daiichi power plant accident from 5 to 7, the worst on the international scale.

The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency made the decision on Monday. It says the damaged facilities have been releasing a massive amount of radioactive substances, which are posing a threat to human health and the environment over a wide area.

The agency used the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale, or INES, to gauge the level. The scale was designed by an international group of experts to indicate the significance of nuclear events with ratings of 0 to 7.

On March 18th, one week after the massive quake, the agency declared the Fukushima trouble a level 5 incident, the same as the accident at Three Mile Island in the United States in 1979.

Level 7 has formerly only been applied to the Chernobyl accident in the former Soviet Union in 1986 when hundreds of thousands of terabecquerels of radioactive iodine-131 were released into the air. One terabecquerel is one trillion becquerels.
