Wasn't Kugler the O-Line coach of Buffalo before he came here?? They consistently sucked ass. I think it may have more to do with drafting a pro bowl center, not to take away credit from Kugler, but the guy isn't the O- Lineman Whisperer or anything.
I think it was worth giving lake a shot. Being a great player doesn't automatically equate to being a great coach, but it helps I suppose. Look at Greene over at GB coaching up clay matthews. |

You realize that Greene was a strength coach for us right? For both Super Bowls in the 2000's. I think he has done alright as a coach.

No. Despite lots of criticism, the truth is we've have some decent players along the line, coached poorly by Zierlein. Right guard is a perpetual question mark (and yet we ran behind RG more often than anywhere else... typical Arians; they'll never expect it!) but every other position is stocked by Pro Bowlers (Pouncey, and even Kemo) or solid workmen (Starks, Adams, Colon) so long as they're not injured.
The same cannot be said of our DBs. Ike is good, but he gets thrown at a LOT, because opposing QBs absolutely do not fear him, and why should they? Whoever plays opposite him tends to make him look better, which is less a statement on Ike than it is on McFadden, Gay, Lewis, etc. The depth behind Troy and Clark is also worrying. Long story short: Lake has much less with which to work than Kugler. |

coaching career. Not really lighting it up, is he? I think he had some DL coaching gigs if I'm not mistaken. |

Lake will have a positive effect on this bunch for several reasons. He was great at both positions. He was a standout LB at UCLA. He knows the roles of the back 7 as well as anybody in the game because he's played most of the positions at a high level. Mentally he's a Steeler. He's perfect for our system because he will develop the DBs to be hybrids like he was. Just as we draft multidimensional players for the OL, Kugler is developing them to fit at different spots. Lake will develop his to fit a variety of roles depending on the play called. With the 2 new corners, we now have 6 corners at 6 foot or better on the roster. They're all about the same size, speed (except Ike), and skill set. Any of them can line up anywhere on the field. Thats why I like Lake for this job and think we have some upside here. Not so with Horton. 'Sides, I like to argue with Ric.

I really hope Crezdon Butler gets an opportunity to play. I really would like him lining up in the slot or at least dime (I can't believe we saw Anthony Madison on the field during the playoffs) with Curtis Brown opposite Ike. |

It's a bit of an exaggeration, but I think when he's been healthy he's been solid. Colon as well. I'm not sure any of our guys are pass blockers first and foremost, which is part of the Arians genius, tailoring the offense to the line's weakness. But still, I think most of these guys are solid. Starks definitely regressed, I think. Maybe he was hurt before he was hurt. Who knows?

I thought Kemoeatu, the big stubborn buffoon, played like a complete asshole in the playoffs. Not only was he responsible for Ben's pick 6 in the Super Bowl, he also found it cool to lunge his fatass body into Ravens defenders well after the play was over in the divisional round. We could have easily lost that game because of him as well.
