Ben didn't have a great game Sunday. No sense in saying otherwise. Mainly that was because he had Raven Linebackers in his face the second he touched the ball, and I suspect even when he didn't, he had The Fear. He'll warm up and we'll be OK once we get set straight. Or he'll get completely atomised by someone.
Our O-line has to find something from somewhere because Sunday was scary and it's a long time til next years draft.

Regarding Ben and the Steelers organization (ownership, coaches, players, etc down the line) and people's perspective of them outside of that immediate group as a whole (Steelers fans, the media, other organizations and their fans), I'll use Ben's statement:
"It's a double-edged sword." By that I mean that: 1. Over the past 20 seasons, the Steelers have consistently been in the mix competitively (not counting the 70s dynasty years) and while this breeds a winning attitude in the organization, proud and dedicated fans, and the portrayal of that in the media - it also breeds some lofty/sometimes seemingly impossible expectations that they put upon themselves, we put on them as fans, and the ones the media puts on them (aka the Steeler way on and off the field) 2. Specifically because of Ben and this corp group's success over roughly the past decade resulting in memorable performances, huge wins and 2 Super Bowls to show for it, we come to expect Super Bowl or bust every year (or at least AFC champ game) We are the spoiler of dreams of other organizations and their fans and frankly, as Steelers fans we revel in that role. As much as we love seeing the black and gold kick some arse - we have thoroughly equally enjoyed seeing other organizations/fans have their hearts ripped out by us and we have rigthfully so boasted - the result is envy and a form of hate by these other groups. Just think how many times we have grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat with this group. We haven't been successful in the most conventional ways - we have a pretty exceptional team. We have probably the most unorthodox QB in modern NFL, a defense that has been dominant when the game is changing to favor offenses and we've had some characters and drama to add into that mix. Other teams have scratched their heads at us figuring it out but they can't because we are unique. SO 3. The result is that when other teams and other fans have the chance to do the same to us (which lately doesn't happen that much - and especially by heated rivals in the Ravens) they go overboard with it because of what we've been able to do and "now it is their time." I live in the greater Baltimore area and let me tell you - everyone is on cloud nine down here while we are in these forums wondering where the season went already because of ONE LOSS. I admit I'm concerned after the lack of effort - but that is what I'm calling it - a lack of effort. In my heart of hearts, Ravens are not the better team, but rather we got the best of ourselves, and the expectations that go along with being Steelers and proud fans. 4. Nothing I said is new - you all know this. Just thought we might need a reminder (myself especially) that when Ben plays bad, or the defense plays bad - it can come across as the sky is falling - because that isn't the Steeler way. We don't lose to our rivals, especially in that matter. It has happened before, it just happened again and I believe we are better for it. Let's have some faith - these guys know how to bounce back. No way they come into our house next time and pull the same crap. Consider Ravens ON NOTICE . . .

Very well said and I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately it won't stop all the doomsayers posting on here. This loss was an exception rather than the rule and the last I checked, you don't win playoff games in September. |

Sorry, but no, they'd get slaughtered behind it. See Super Bowl 42, the Patriots playoff game against the Jets last season, and their playoff game against the Ravens two years ago. See also Manning getting completely flustered in the divisional game against the Steelers back in 2005. Any QB will look great if they're given an hour of pocket time (see Patriots/Dolphins game last night).

Agree. But the difference there is Brady has an OC that recognizes the need for quick timing plays and Brady runs them to perfection. Arians refuses to recognize our OL sucks so he calls plays that are broken from the beginning and then Ben is left to make it up on the fly. After a while it catches up with you. If we had a real offensive system, I think we could work with the guys we have and play to our strengths (or against our weaknesses if you want to look at it that way).

Absolutely ridiculous statement. Manning gets frustrated easy and EVERYBODY knows the way to beat Brady is to get pressure on him. Ben sees as much pressure every game as Brady did last years playoff game vs the Jets.
