Steelers blank Seahawks, 24-0
By Bob Labriola - Steelers Digest Posted 32 minutes ago http://www.steelers.com/news/article...b-9f7189e99c19 STEELERS 24, SEAHAWKS 0 Steelers’ record: 1-1 One year ago: 2-0 Series record (including playoffs): Steelers lead, 9-8 STORYLINE In the immediate aftermath of their 2011 regular season opener, Troy Polamalu TURNING POINT This seemed to be one of those games where the visiting team would need some help early in the form of mistakes to grow some confidence if it was to pull off the upset. The Steelers’ failure on that early goal-to-go situation could have been the start of allowing that to happen, but the defense forced a three-and-out and the offense responded with a 9-play, 60-yard drive ending with a 1-yard touchdown run by Rashard Mendenhall STAT THAT STANDS OUT In two full games, games in which he has played every defensive snap, Ike Taylor WHAT WENT RIGHT * After the offense failed to punch it in on that first-and-goal from the 1-yard line, the Steelers defense allowed only two yards on three plays to force Seattle to punt from its own end zone. * It’s not usually a good idea to field a punt at your own 5-yard line, but that’s what Antonio Brown * On a first-and-10 at the 23-yard line, Ben Roethlisberger * On a third-and-5 to open the second half, Aaron Smith * On the Steelers' second offensive possession of the second half, Ben Roethlisberger completed 7-of-7 for 77 yards and the 2-yard touchdown to Mike Wallace * It was a fine defensive series for the Steelers after the touchdown pass to Wallace made it 24-0 late in the third quarter. On first down, Troy Polamalu was all over an attempted pass to TE Anthony McCoy. He timed his break on the ball perfectly and just missed what would have been a pick-six. Then on third-and-1, William Gay knocked a pass away from WR Mike Williams to force a punt. * Nice bounce-back. Curtis Brown WHAT WENT WRONG * It was a first-and-goal at the 1-yard line after CB Brandon Browner was flagged for interfering with Mike Wallace, and the Steelers seemed poised to end their opening possession with a touchdown. On first down, Rashard Mendenhall was stopped for no gain; on second-and-goal, safety Atari Bigby sacked Ben Roethlisberger for a 7-yard loss; on third down, Roethlisberger scrambled to within inches of the goal line. On fourth down, Mendenhall attempted to go over the left side but was stopped for no gain by safety Earl Thomas. * It was a costly 16-yard gain. On a completed pass to Heath Miller * Shaun Suisham

Only proves that the Rat's are not all that they're cracked up to be. Good to see someone with ties to the Burg kicked their asses.

A much better weekend than last :).. Shutout was just what the doctor ordered and for hte Titans to humble the Ravens was a nice treat too, I thought hte Ravens would win that one handily. I'll echo what I've said already but I really think they were obsessed with the idea of beating us so bad that they lost focus that they play us twice and other teams the other fourteen games.

What a difference a week makes.
Still some things that need to be hashed out, it wasn't perfect, the Seahawks are just real bad. But leaps and bounds better than least week. Ben looks a little off to me. He missed a few throws today that seemed out of sorts fro him. A couple were miscommunication due to young WRs I'm sure, but some others weren't. One in particular was a crossing route in the 3rd where Hines was wide open for a big gain and the throw wasn't even close. Puzzling. ![]() Great day for the defense, they only crossed midfield once. I know it wasn't perfect either, but no need to knit pick. A shutout is a shutout. Great game.

it wasn't against a great team, but I'll take it. I saw a lot of good things going on, and some bad things as well.
Some of those miscues on passing plays might be because it's still early in the season, hopefully they'll tighten up as the year goes on.

im still not convinced we are worth anything. I feel like we were still playing very sluggish. I'm just glad to see Ben not down with a broken leg or torn ligament. You can still see that Ben's throwing game is way off though :S
