Default Woodley hopes to play after positive test results

Steelers' Woodley hopes to play after positive test results

Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley is pushing to play Sunday when Pittsburgh visits the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Steelers sources.

Woodley was expected to miss two weeks after he sustained a hamstring injury in a game against the New England Patriots, and then come back after the Steelers' Week 11 bye. Given the tests done on the injury, however, Woodley is already lobbying to play, and he will if it is in anyway possible.

The Steelers did not think it was possible during the middle of the past week that linebacker James Harrison would be able to face the Baltimore Ravens. Harrison eventually was cleared to play, however, and had three sacks. Similarly, the Steelers are keeping an open mind regarding Woodley, who was on a sack tear prior to the injury.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Monday that Woodley's participation in practice this week would dictate his availability on Sunday. Tomlin also said Harrison had no physical issues following last Sunday's loss.

Tomlin said wide receiver Hines Ward is "doing well" as he deals with concussion-like symptoms.

Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders had his knee scoped on Monday. Tomlin said he will miss two weeks while he recovers. Punter Daniel Sepulveda -- placed on injured reserve on Saturday -- also underwent knee surgery on Monday, Tomlin said.

The Steelers face a crucial game against the 6-2 Bengals, and a loss would be their third already in the AFC North.

This will be a HUGE boost to the defense if Woodley can get to play.

Don't rush back from a hamstring injury. I know they're 6-2. I know he was sorely missed versus the Ravens. But that is not an injury to take lightly, even if it doesn't seem to be critical. I'd rather he took another week off if he's not absolutely ready to go than risk losing him for another 3 to 6 weeks by making matters worse. It's not a matter of "manning up" but rather a matter of being smart.

i have to agree with that. 1 week missed is nothing compared to 3-6

He has to play if we want any hope at winning the division. This is a very important game. I didn't like anything I saw from Worilds last week.

i like our chances vs cincy as long as harrison is playing, but i do agree we'd have a better chance with woodley in the lineup. but really i wouldn't want to risk worsening the injury. if he's only 70% ready to play he won't be effective

I'm a Ravens fan and Harrison played like a man possessed in the game.

The rush where he jumped over Rice and he moved out of the way is telling.

Damn scary!
