Default 2 players to replace el? suprised?

dont be. i thought it would be 3: a wr, a return specialist, and m. robinson to pick up the slack on the gadget plays.

last year when plexico left the steelers did the same thing. got wr ( f.a. c. wilson), drafted h. miller to replace his height and end zone threat, and gave more passes to el.

the passing game has definitely been upgraded. i see ben being top 5 in passer efficiency rating once again. as much as i wanted l. white i see that wouldve led to more questions. the addition of s. homes and reid provides answers.

naw i ain't surprised either. and i'm glad, we got a couple of guys that can punt return. did el punt return in college??? well we all know reid did and he's badass at it, el was overrated in the punt return game, sure he avg. good yards be he danced around to damn much. i'm confiedenet we'll be better off with willie (damn we got a lot of willie's now lol) returning punts. and holmes will be a better wr then el is because well he's a natural wr, he ain't coming in having to learn it.

I heard Gil Brandt say yesterday that the hot thing NFL teams are doing now is drafting special teams players higher in the draft.
Getting or stopping good field position from the kicking game is the new priority.
With that being said and finding out other information the Steelers draft is starting to make more sense.

I talked about this in another thread.... Our offense could very well rank right there at the top of the AFC... Seriously. And when you think about our D creating short field opportunities ... WOW

I can almost see that 6th ring in sight.

He's ready, Steelers fans. His ordeal over, his return will be complete come Saturday in Arizona, when football again becomes the focus and a career briefly interrupted resumes.

I can't imagine how stoked Ben has to be for the coming season. He's now got a ton of weapons to use. With his ability to avoid the rush and find the open guy, we could be in for an interesting ride.

Steelers offense will be more dangerous no doubt.

This will be Ben's third year in the NFL. A QB's third year is really when they take off. Ben already has a Super Bowl ring. So its exciting to see how much he really grows this year. Willie Parker has that year of starting under his belt. I really think he lets his instincts take over this year. Willie had a good year no doubt but sometimes I think he followed the designed hole instead of cutting it back for a big play. Dan Krieder will do what he alway does.

Our Oline will be among the best. Alan Faneca will contiue his excellent play at guard. Hopefully Marvel Smith doesn't miss any time. We all seen what happens when Smith is out of the lineup. Jeff Hartings has been playing on one knee for two years. But the last years Jeff has played very well. Kendall Simmons hopefully continues to get his game back in gear after battling injuries and illness in 03 and 04. Simmons struggled at first last year. But his play really picked up in the playoffs. Max Starks has the size to dominate. Overall did a solid job in his first year as a Starter.

Plus I'm excited about the two lineman we drafted in last years draft. Trai Essex picked up game experience when Marvel went down last year. Essex should be much improved this year. I like Chris Kemoeatu alot. I wouldn't be shocked if he beat out Simmons for the RG spot.

Hines Ward is the hardest working man in the NFL. I don't even have to comment on him. We all know what Hines brings to the table. Cedric Wilson after not showing much in the season stepped it up in the playoffs. Santonio Holmes brings the big play back to our passing game. Sure Wilson and El has their share of big plays. But Holmes is a threat every time he touches the ball. Nate Washington was the suprise of training camp last year and made the team. Nate should be much improved this year. If Morgan makes the team which is a big if now with the drafting of Holmes and Reid. But Morgan was a solid 4th reciever for us last year.

Heath Miller had a great rookie year and provided a weapon at TE that the Steelers hadn't had since Eric Green. Miller should continue to improve this year.

The Steelers offense has the chance to be very dangerous especially when we go to single back/ three reciever sets. Holmes when we go to three wides will be placed in the split end spot due to his speed. Then Ward will be at flanker or even in the slot. Then what ever spot Hines is at the other spot will be Wilson. Throw in Heath Miller and a defense can't cover all those weapons.

Another thing, Anthony Smith blocked two punts in college.

When was the last time we blocked a punt?

'98 against the Chiefs?

I think dook is on to something ... as much as this years draft seems to help our offense... our special teams has definitely improved this offseason... Reid and Holmes will be solid returners... Smith will provide instant help on coverage teams.... Kudla is someone who has a real shot to make the team and make an impact on ST's... just something else to be excited about
