Definitely not. They couldn't win one when he was there because as a team they consistently underachieve. I don't think they would have won one if they had kept him and quite frankily I was happy to see the City of New Orleans get a player of Drew Brees class and caliber. The Chargers will win more games when they quit making boneheaded roster moves, and get rid of their coach who has a knack for choking when it counts.

I think they would have won one had they kept Schottenheimer. Brees would have helped, fo' shizzle.

I think they could have. With an effective Ladanian and a young Brees, I think it'd happen.

It's impossible to know.
If Marino had been traded during the same point in his career that Brees was, we might sit around and wonder how many Super Bowls the Dolphins would have won had they still had him. The answer, of course, would be 0. |

But yeah, this modern Chargers team has been much better overall than the Dolphins with Marino. That being said I don't think QB play has been the Chargers downfall, I think it was a colossal mistake to get rid of Schottenheimer, especially to replace him with Norv Turner, seriously seriously stupid. |

I don't know honestly. Rivers is a good QB and Brees is the better of the two but I think the Chargers figured they had a lot invested in Rivers and Brees was a risk since he was going to get or coming off surgery. I think the Chargers biggest mistake was not merely firing Marty Schottenheimer but replacing him with Norv Turner.? That was a dumb move. Anyhow thinking about Rivers. I am glad the 2004 Draft turned out the way it did for us since I'd rather have Roethlisberger than Rivers or Manning. We were quite fortunate to have him fall to us.

Ive been a Brees fan since his Purdue days. He got shafted in San Diego (release after injury) and obviously fell into a better situation. Unlike Rivers he is all class. I guess the better question is who got the better end of the trade?

Brees started two years with Rivers behind him, if I remember correctly. Brees got out of his franchise tag and signed a 6 year, 60 million dollar contract with the Saints for the '06 season.
