Might be because Troy has had more big game plays then Ed Reed. Two in particular were the Indy game in 2006 when I saw something I hadn't seen since Lawrence Taylor, and that was ONE man destroy an entire offense for 60 min. The other was against Ed Reed's team in the 2009 AFC title game.

I know there are folks who like to compare them and some say Ed Reed is by far and away the best. I always say Ed is like Walter Payton and Troy is Barry Sanders of defenses. Ronnie Lott was Jim Brown. Hard to compare or say either or are better or worse. Each dominated and each had a special "thing" of their own.
