Default Comp Picks

We are supposedly receiving 2 possibly 3 7th round compensatory picks for the free agents we lost. if we get 3 that would give us 4 7th round picks and 10 overall picks. We dont have room for 10 rookies on the team and all 10 are not going to make significant contributions. Although you cannot trade comp picks, so with that in mind id say we trade some of our own picks to move up and grab some quality players over a quantity of players. Maybe trade our 7th and a 3rd to move up for a 2nd rounder. Giving us a 1st two seconds a 4,5,6 and atleast 2 7th round picks. We are going to have some holes to fill so why not fill with quality players.

There will definitely be plenty of room for 10 rookies, some will be put on the PS and usually the Steelers sign and cut there late round guys right away. I agree though that if we can package a few picks to move up or even package some picks to trade for players that would help tremendously. The Steelers arent a team who likes to stock pile picks, so there may be some trades for them.

.... i guess you don't understand the values assigned to draft picks... a 3rd and 7th might...might... move you up one spot in the 3rd .... to move from 3rd into the second would probably take a 3rd , 4th ,5th and 7th.

The Steelers could use those 7th round picks to secure some guys they were going to sign as undrafted free agents who may be in high demand elsewhere. For example Tomlin talked to FB Henry Hynoski about signing with the team but he chose the Giants. If we had an xtra 7th we could have just drafted him.

Wouldn't that have been sweet?

A kicker and a fullback would be nice.

Its all going to depend on what players are available. If the steelers have somebody rated high on their board maybe they package some picks up to move up. Although we have never been too much of movers and shakers on draft day. But the extra seventh rounders should allow us to address more needs such as special teams and a possible fullback. We could get the top fb in the seventh and a couple more guys for depth
