Spreading the money out throughout a players contract is never a problem if you keep the d a m n player. Whoever wrote that article is silly sighted. The Steelers save a ton of money by drafting quality players that produce on the field as opposed to what a lot of teams do which is drafting crappy players that never produce which in turn forces those teams to the free agent market to overpay for another teams quality player. It's a lot easier on the salary cap when you're able to draft studs i.e... Casey Hampton, Troy Polomalu, Ben Roethlisberger, Heath Miller,and Santonio Holmes and sign them to a contract at rookie salary rates. Besides that, nearly all contending teams are going to be salary cap tight. If a team has a large surplus of cap money then you can bet that they certainly SUCK!
