It's a shame that AP didn't get the record. But if you were to measure the achievements you would have to conclude that Peterson's year was much better.

His average is a mind-boggling 6 yards per carry. He got within 9 yards with far less carries and against stiffer opposition.

Erickson was a fluid straight ahead upright runner blessed with deceptive speed.

But AP is like the second coming of Jim Brown. He has it all. He runs with power and heart. He really is a treat to watch. And he is a much better runner than Erickson in the purest sense.

And to do what he did after that knee surgery is miraculous.

Those are some college football like stats and I don't think he has a single elite linesman blocking for him too. Just amazing. As you say, he did all this coming off a very tough surgery. We should be glad as Steelers fans that we only have to see him once every four years. Reason I bring this up is because the Browns were a possibility for him in 2007 but they passed on him for Joe Thomas who is no slouch but Peterson is truly a once in a generation type back. He should win MVP this year.

I remember the last time we played the Vikings, I think Willie Gay still has Peterson's cleat marks on his face when he trampled Gay into the ground without breaking stride for a big run. We lucked out that they had Favre who did his usual find a way to lose meltdown at the end of the game.
