The 40 Yd Dash vs. On-Field Play
Perhaps because it is so finite and creates such simple comparisons, the 40 has become the must-see TV event of the combine. But that does not mean its results are definitive for the talent evaluators in the NFL...

Re: The 40 Yd Dash vs. On-Field Play
you'd think by now NFL GM's would stop falling for combine stats. how many work out warrior busts do you need to see before you stop falling for them ?
you'd also think that by now they would have tailored the combine drills to more resemble what they need to see from football players instead of track athletes.
do the drills in full equipment on the most commonly found football surface. do drills that emulate what they'll be doing during football play. have receivers run timed routes that show changing direction speed instead of straight lines. have running backs run with a ball in their hands with obstacles that simulate defenders. have the linemen do timed drills pushing sleds . etc,etc
