Penguins 2013-14 Season Preview
When it comes to the Pittsburgh Penguins these days, every start of a new season comes with big expectations. This year is no different. Last years meltdown against the Boston Bruins was very painful to watch for Pens fans like myself.
But, we are not going to go down that road. Itís a new season and even though we didnít see much change in the roster during the off-season, there are a few things to look forward to.
The Rebirth of Marc-Andrť Fleury
Many Pens fans pointed the finger at Fleury after their loss to Boston in the Playoffs last season. Some fans believe Tomas Vokoun is the better goalie on the Penguins roster. I personally like Vokoun and I do think heís starter worthy however, I am not ready to give up on Fleury just yet.
This off-season Fleury went as far as seeing a sports psychologist to attempt to unblock what ever mental lock down is on his mind. His struggles showed on the first day of training camp when he allowed three goals on three shots and apparently scored on himself.
But even with all these mental breakdowns we canít ignore the fact that Fleury when hes on his game, has been one of the better starters in the NHL. Considering his past and the growing doubts on whether heís still starter worthy, the time to rise is now! The fact Fleury agreed to see a sports psychologist tells me heís trying to get better.
The guy wants to play better and deserves another shot. With everything that has happened in the post-season and during this years training camp, Iím concerned but not worried. It will be interesting to see how Fleury steps up to the challenges at hand because if he doesnít, Iím sure we all can agree that Vokoun will be our new starter.
