I'm curious if anyone else reads this:

"Looking at the roster, you'd say Duce Staley ... would have to fill that role."

"If he makes the team," interjected fellow NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth.

"Exactly," concluded Bettis.
And comes away with this:

Seriously, anyone? Anyone at all? Just curious.

I don't know, I liked Bettis and still do. He wasn't a "star" in the sense that he blew everyone away with his abilities like some, but he got it done and we all relied on him for simply that. His absence is, no pun intended, a big hole to fill and I'm sure there will be a bunch of times this coming season where more than one of us will be thinking "If only we'd had Bettis on that play!"

As far as his comments, he never struck me as arrogant - more the opposite, in fact. Like everyone else he's just trying to make his way in the world and right now his world is drastically different than anything else he's ever known or done. Maybe this won't be the right thing for him, but he still needs a chance to find his niche.

And as an aside, when you think about it, it really is a "different team" every year. Isn't it?
