Pens lose 1-0 in one of the most boring games ever. It wasn't for lack of trying though, Giguere was just a brick wall and their defense is top notch. Both teams played very well...Avs just a bit better.

Pens were no match for Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

Fleury only faced about a dozen shots the whole game but 1 goal was enough for them.

First 13 minutes of the game they had no shots and the other periods were about the same - and Pens just getting stonewalled on every scoring chance.

7 Pens PP's and nothing there either.

Giguere just cuckolded them....goose-eggs

And to make tonight even worse (and I even like the Sharks), the Sharks win in a 1-0 SO against the RedWings. Talk about a snoozer of an evening.

I totally forgot about the game last night. I had so much other stuff going on. Sounds like it would've lulled me to sleep though. I hate that we lost it though.

don't listen to them - it was a good game, we brought the defense but Pens loaded up on the right side shots with their lefties all night and Malkin was stuffed - it happens

missing out on 7 PP's was the killer in a 1-0 game, Pens had plenty of good chances

it was a bouncing puck night, what can you do?

fix the ice

Olli is here to stay!!

Maatta to stay with Penguins for remainder of season
Thursday, 10.24.2013 / 10:16 AM / News
NHL.com

The Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday announced defenseman Olli Maatta would be remaining with the team for the remainder of the season.

Maatta, 19, has a goal and two assists in nine games while averaging 15:03 of ice time per game.

"Based on his play, we believe this is the best decision for Olli and the Penguins," Pittsburgh general manager Ray Shero said.

Taken by the Penguins with the 22nd pick of the 2012 NHL Draft, Pittsburgh had to decide prior to Maatta playing his 10th game -- which will be Friday against the New York Islanders -- whether to keep him in the NHL or return him to his junior team, the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League and delay by one season the start of his three-year, entry-level contract. Due to his age and the fact that he was drafted from a Canadian Hockey League team, Maatta is ineligible to play in the American Hockey League.

Maatta still can be returned to London after he plays his 10th game, but the Penguins would not be able to recall him and it still would count as one season off his contract.

Pens vs. Islanders tonight, and Letang will be back tonight.

LETANG RETURNS
Defenseman Kris Letang will make his season debut tonight when the Pens take on the New York Islanders. He has missed the opening nine games of the regular season with a lower-body injury.

“I’m excited,” Letang said. “With the team’s success I’ve been watching every game from the press box. I’m excited to be a part of the team on the ice and help them to win.”

Letang typically logs around 25-plus minutes per game. Letang feels that his conditioning is well enough that he could see his usual workload.

“My legs and conditioning have never been an issue,” he said. “It’s something I work on even when I’m injured. I’m not going to worry about that. That’s the reason I like to work really hard off the ice and making sure my conditioning is as high as it was before.

“We’ll go with the flow and see how it goes. The first shift will be the first step.”

Head coach Dan Bylsma said the team will monitor Letang’s minutes.

The Penguins are also dressing blueliner Deryk Engelland as a forward on the fourth line. If Letang needs a breather then Engelland could always step back into a defensive position. However, the plan for the game is to keep Engelland at forward.

Penguins gave away that game last night. That was surprising, really. Zatkoff played better than in his debut, but still not great, IMO. As a fan I am not confident in his ability to back up Fleury, from what I've seen so far. Can understand the need for Bylsma to save Fleury, though. I don't believe the goalie is the viable culprit. The defense - as you pointed out Letang - need to make smarter hockey decisions. I think in a few plays last evening, Letang tried to do too much, which led to breaks for NY. We can hope it will only take him a few games to get back into his groove.
