If it makes anyone feel better, listening to Baltimore sports talk radio today was a delight. The callers sound like the gloom and doomer crowd here, but worse. They are already questioning Harbaugh as a head coach the season following a Super Bowl victory. One caller called him Coach Harrible. Somebody even intimated that Cam Cameron would have been better suited for another playoff run!

Many also want Ray Rice benched/gone already. So quick to throw their vaunted stars in the trash heap while they are still struggling through injuries and bad o-line play. I'm looking at you, anybody who wanted Troy gone.

We need Timmons to come out fired up and pissed off, the rest of the game will fall in place.

I think the Jets game has the possibility to be a great building block. Some things were done well and others were still not very good. We need improvement against the Ravens. The other good news is that the Ravens don't seem to be that great this year either. Ray Rice has been as non-existent as our running game and Flacco looks like crap lately without Boldin (no more hail marys). The Jets missed a lot of opportunities yesterday and the Ravens have had the same trait this year. If we don't waste a ton of plays on screens and can establish even a bit of a run game I think we stand a good shot. The defense will play up, they always do against Baltimore.
For the most part I agree with you on this, however, those screen passes that you're talking about are probably one of the key things that kept Ben upright and in the game. Without those quick hitters, also known as long hand offs, I don't think we run the ball at all. Our line in its current condition cannot withstand 5 and 7 step drops on a regular basis without first setting up the defense.

At the end of the day those short passes add up and if they help keep defenses off of Ben, I'm all for it.

Not if the Ravens only score 17 again.

Win the turnover battle. That's really about it if you ask me.

I know I hate the repeated screen passes, but you are absolutely right, Hitman. They helped keep Ben alive and acted as a de facto run game to keep the defense honest and second guessing. It definitely slowed the pass rush down. I'd just rather see some more quick slants and RB screens out of the backfield. Less screens to the WRs and TEs.

I'm with you on the slants and RB screens. Maybe its something we're working up to since those require a touch more timing.

We ran 12 of them and they added up to 5 drops and a total of 27 yards. That's about a 2 yard average, which is bad even if it's considered our run game. I get the idea of using it to keep Ben upright, but quick slants and short hook routes will do the same, and will at least net some yardage and get us closer to a first down much more often. As you said, our O line as of right now is not very good, so running if we run the screen occasionally I wouldn't be against it, but 12 is way to many.
