Not even close to comparable.

For what it's worth. Allen would be sitting on the bench just like Wheaton, if SD hadn't already lost (I think 3) recievers to IR.

Allen was a top ten pick. He blew out his knee, and dropped to R3. The Bolts planned to rehab him and work him in slowly. Fortunately for them, he is fully healed... and, he's better than the guys he replaced.

Wheaton is stuck behind a guy who is second in the NFL in receptions, and a guy who just had a 55 yard TD. And, BB is likely to target Heath before either of those players.

(Not many balls left for the rookie.)

You can moan about Wheaton, but I think that in three years, you will be pleased with the pick (i.e. I foresee Wheaton being a 60 reception, 900 yard type of receiver).

the amount of injuries over the last few seasons is pissing me off but if you look around they're happening with other teams too more frequently - that's what happens when you cut back on preparation opportunities

We need to keep Brown going, get Heath the ball in critical situations, and Manny needs to build on Sunday's big gainer - was glad to see Moye in there and at this point, he'll probably get more looks than Wheaton considering he at least has a TD under his belt

You know what's funny, people were saying almost those exact words (pronunciation & all) about Hines Ward... and about Troy.

Patience people... patience.

I remember Troy's rookie year into 2004/2005 - "How cuz he doesn't lead the league in pix and why did yinz trade up fer him - major BURST!"

Yinzer speak - some of the same people calling Heyward a bust when he's just starting to come on

It was far, far worse than that (in regards to Troy).

They went 6-10, and everyone was screaming, "Bill Cowher should be fired for trading up for this piece of sh!t... Cowher wasted two draft picks to get him... and now, the Steelers are 6-10. What a bust!!! Typical Cowher pick."

So I guess even after a win , there has to be a thread bashing someone in the Steelers organization.

I don't remember that at all. I remember him showing flashes and most people being very excited once they saw how athletic and all over the field he was. That team had much bigger issues than Troy being a bust.

Keenan Allen was more polished than Wheaton. The only knock on him that made him drop was his injury and whether he'd have the speed to necessary to move that big body in and out of breaks. He does. The Chargers took that chance and they lucked out. Wheaton showed plenty in the pre season. He is behind a few experienced, talented WR. I think Wheaton will be a guy to blow the top off defenses but why have him in if Ben has so little time to even attempt a deep pass, let alone to a rookie still learning the playbook.

I do think the team has made some questionable decisions regarding players and their lack of development especially in the secondary and offensive line is troubling. But injuries have played a role too
