it's pretty easy when you look at the playoffs format. I don't see how anyone can honestly look at the Bengals, ravens and browns and think that they're the shit.

This is it.

If the Steelers win their five divisional games, they will basically break even (catch up) with the rest of the division. Going 3-3 in the other games brings the Steelers up to 9-7... which might be enough to win the division.

WILD CARD
The AFC is weak this year... aside from the Broncos.

The Chiefs have already essentially won a wild card spot. That leaves one other... and I don't see any team that the Steelers can't pass up.

MUST WIN
Every game should be seen as a "one game play-off"... just like the end of 2005. No looking past any team... don't even worry about the record: just win this ONE game... and that is ALL that the Steelers should worry about.

I think 10-6 will get us a wildcard, possible the division, but we have to win out in our division to even sniff the playoffs. We have to win one of the following 3 games (IMHO the most difficult aside from our division) the Pats, Lions and Packers. If we win the rest and drop just 2 of those, we will have the H2H over the entire AFC East WC's. The AFC West will probably send 2 so that leave the AFC South. lets hope the Titans loss doesnt come back to bite us in the ass. Anyway, that is how I see it, this week is a must win.

honestly, they can only afford to lose two more, and then HOPE for some help. I can see a 10-6 team sitting at home this year - especially with the undefeated Broncos and Chiefs, along with the one loss NE. That's 3/6, then Bengals/Ravens/Steelers for 3 or 4 Spot.

9-7 MIGHT get us the 6 seed. If we see an improvement on the road like we did at Jets then so be it. if they turn this thing around, it'll be biggerturnaround than 05, with or without a SB victory.

Baltimore x2
Cincy
Cleveland x2
Raiders - west coast team - yikes!
NE
GB

that's an effing gauntlet - who am I missing that makes you feel better? Nothing is impossible but PHEW. they complete that with only a couple losses and they're SB ready IMO

Who the hell wants Clowney? I don't - he'll play out his rookie contract and look for something larger elsewhere. His attitude does suck, regardless of spurs or anything else. and it's been published many times. Look it up. Very rarely anymore do you get a 180 turnaround from these big names that are always out and always have something negative out there about them

The only truly difficult team on the schedule is GB... and even they have holes.

Balt, Cincy, Clev are all beatable.

NE is without any weapons, and no one on defense up the middle (watch teams RUN for 150 yards on them every single week).

Det, Mia, and Buff are all up & down teams. Very beatable.

Oak (for whatever reason) has been a tough out, but they are beatable.

PLAY-OFFS
Den, KC, NE, Indy are locks, with KC being the first wild card.

Even if Cincy (or Balt or Clev) win the division, the final wild card spot is still wide open. Tenn, NYJets, SD, Mia... they are all extremely hot & cold; most of them will be 8-8 or worse.

9-7 is not an unrealistic record for the Steelers, and that might win the division (and/or a wild card spot)... or, it might not. Regardless, the play-offs are not "out of the question" as some may believe.

I foresee a nine-game win streak... heading into a Sunday Night Football showdown with Cincy.

Not too early for a "must win" I agree. BUT 2-4 is a HECK of a lot better than 1-5. At 1-5, the playoffs are 99% out of reach... especially Pittsburgh's schedule remaining - Cincy, at Baltimore, at New England, at Green Bay, Cleveland twice.... The Steelers can't really afford to lose this game.

If they lose this game, they're done.
Finished, finito, all over.
This is a must win game IMO.
Beating a Division rival at home will give this team the much needed boost it needs to even begin thinking playoffs.
Lose and their morale goes in the sh*tter.
Unable to recover if we lose.

Agree completely. A must win game IMO.
If this season is going to be turned around it has to start this week at home.
Can't put it off another week and say "we still have time."
There will be enough time until we are mathematically eliminated.
We need to see some good, consistent play building on the Jet win and string a few wins together.

Nice point. I see your reasoning. Considering Pittsburgh has Oakland next week - a team that has given the Steelers trouble over recent years - followed by New England, this game is very important. Like I pointed out, at 1-5, Pittsburgh's playoff hopes are 0. They better start playing for next year at that point.... which is sad considering half of the season is not over yet.
