Default NFL TV Ratings Continue To Blitz MLB

It is an old story by now, but regular season NFL continues to vastly outdraw the World Series

This story ran on the World Series ratings

Game 2 of the Fall Classic on FOX scored an 8.3/14 national household rating/share and averaged 13.4 million viewers according to Nielsen Media Research

By way of comparison to baseball's championship, the CBS doubleheader games that featured a matchup between 1-4 and 3-3 teams performed as follows:

CBS scored a pair of increases for NFL action during Week 7 of the season.

The Week 7 NFL national window, featuring Ravens/Steelers, earned a 14.8 final rating and 25.3 million viewers on CBS Sunday — up 6% in ratings and 10% in viewership from coverage featuring Jets/Patriots last year (14.0, 23.0M), and up 1% and 4%, respectively, from coverage featuring Packers/Vikings on FOX in 2011 (14.6, 24.3M).

And no surprise the return of Saint Peyton to Indy doubled last night's Series audience

The Week 7 Broncos/Colts “Sunday Night Football” game drew a 15.9 final rating and 26.9 million viewers on NBC,

I heard something about the MLB tv contract coming up and they're going to get destroyed on the next offer they get from the networks.

I watched panthers vs TB instead of game 2. Dejan kovacevic summed it up best in his trib chat today... its boring watching the same old high market teams duke it out for the crown year after year.

Then again I also watched the MNF debacle of MIN VS NYG... a game john madden called possibly the worst game he had ever seen.

I'm just a football junkie. I've even neglected some NASCAR chase this year now that I've got the Sunday ticket. Then again I hate watching Jimmie Johnson win the title every year as well.

NFL football is the one sport that money cannot buy.

The amazing part is that for baseball these ratings are being spun as good news

Through Two Games Of The 2013 World Series, TV Ratings A Home Run

Game 2 of the Fall Classic on FOX scored an 8.3/14 national household rating/share and averaged 13.4 million viewers according to Nielsen Media Research. Last night’s game is up 6 percent in rating and 9 percent in viewership over last year’s 7.8/12 (12.3 million viewers) that saw the San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers.
....

Through Games 1 and 2, the World Series on FOX is averaging an 8.5/14 and 13.9 million viewers nationally, up 10 percent in rating and 13 percent in viewership over last year’s 7.7/12 (12.3 million viewers).

But maybe it is good news if you compare the baseball ratings to the worst the NFL has to offer - the World Series outdrew (barely) that trainwreck on Monday night

The Week 7 Vikings/Giants “Monday Night Football” game drew an 8.4 U.S. rating and 13.2 million viewers on ESPN

It's just something that baseball is going to have to get used to. As the greatest generation and then the boomers die out, their audience is going to continue to shrink.

FWIW, Baseball's 'bad' ratings (in comparison to the NFLs) are still better than many network TV channels/shows.

That's why they boast about them.

Couldn't tell you who was playing or who won in the past.
Kinda boring like golf or watching paint dry.
