Default Key to beating Pats: Bell?

We're all worried about how bad 'the best QB in the NFL' Tom Brady will do vs. the Steelers.

However, why aren't we considering what the Steelers can do effectively vs. the Pats?

They've lost Mayo and Wilfork for the season and Talib and [Tommy] Kelly are questionable. And while they just added Isaac Sopoaga, their D is still showing signs of being ineffective vs. the run:

136
129
97
58
162
131
177
156

That's the Pats Rush yds/game allowed this season. In every game but two they've allowed 100+ yds, with a sixth on the cusp (and the eight being the RB deficient Falcons).

Conversely, they've allowed >200 pass yards only four times in eight games.

We all know that the OL isn't more than average at best and that Haley is pass happy, but if seven of eight other teams can establish a ground game vs. the Pats, why not the Steelers?

Provided he gets more carries and makes the most of them, Bell could provide a boost to T.O.P. which keeps Brady off the field, ergo possibly fewer Pats points.

For a team like the Steelers, who are having trouble scoring more than three times a game, that could be crucial.

If there were ever a time to going back to playing 'Steelers football', this Sunday might be it.

agreed. Run the ball, keep it out of Brady's hands. We need to control the line on defense and get pressure.

the key to beating them is to play just like the ONE time we have played in the past 3 years and beat them.

cover tight on defense
on offense short drops with quick passes. that game Heath had like 8 catches in the first half.

it worked great that game and since then I think they obviously lost film of that game as it's obviously never been tried since

The Pats are going to have 13 in the box early and often.

Couldn't agree more. Gotta get Bell going both in the running game catching passes out of the backfield. Nice post, and very well said.
