I don't call it playing scared. Few teams have fielded a better defense than Dick LeBeau in the last 10 years.

Where were you a defensive coordinator?

I don't think that there was anyone who didn't want him re-signed.

But, alas, he did NOT want to be here; he wanted to be a Saint. I do not fault him (at all) for wanting to go back home. I wish that he was here, but understand why he needed to go.

Steelers never even offered Lewis a contract. They apparently thought that Cortez Allen was as good, or better than Lewis.

So what happened? Well, according to Lewis' Twitter feed, the Steelers didn't offer him a new deal at allónot to begin with, and not after he had been courted by the Saints. It appears that Lewis was never the high-priority re-signing we all thought he was heading into the new league year.

I remember reading just that. Maybe he is, who knows. Just not now.

Plus, the Steelers probably knew they couldn't afford Lewis.

He was better than Ike at this stage of their respective careers. He was the best CB we've had here since Woodson. Granted that isn't saying much, but you get the point. I remember watching him play last year and saying to myself, holy shit this dude is good! We FINALLY got a legitimate CB!!!! Now he's proven why the Saints and other teams wanted him so bad, and we let him walk without even offering him a contract? UNFREAKIN BELIEVABLE!!!! CB's like him don't grow on trees. You gotta at LEAST offer, then find a way to keep him here! William fucking Gay!!! Aaaaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!!

There were a few on here who didn't want to see us re-sign Lewis, and their main reasons were that we couldn't afford to sign him.

I definitely thought he was a keeper, but like it's been pointed out, Allen looked like he could have been better. I still don't know if I believe that, but I hope Allen turns out to get better and better.

There were quite a few that thought Lewis ONLY had one good year and STILL was not a ballhawk that was going to get 7+ INT's a season.

I love the fans that are pissed off that a guy doesnt come in his first season or 2 and just excel at the pro game......but then bitch when a guy puts it together in year 3 or 4 and thinks he wants too much money and we should let him go. Then they just bitch about the lack of depth at the position.

good points, now that you mention it I do remember reading posts of people saying he was going to be another "Wallace". Just ready to coast through a contract.

Lewis was leading the league (or second) in passes defended... but, they weren't INTs... and thus, some people didn't care.

I did not realized that he never even got a contract offer from the Steelers. Stranger still was the fact that ONLY the Saints made him an offer.

Maybe he told his agent to tell teams "I'm going to be a Saint. Leave me alone."

Dude, the season is basically over. Keep the fucking rookie and developing CB in for the season so they can get the most out of this pathetic season. They'll learn more playing as starters than didn't the pine for 3/4 of the game. There is nothing else to lose so we may as well find something to gain. And that's real fucking experience for these budding players. Yet, another brain move by tomlin. When is this fool gonna demote himself to assistant coach until he learns the basic principles of the HC position.
