Overall I agree with you. The O-line is in better shape (potential wise) than the D-line.
I salute you sir for you clearly are in the minority of positive thinking fans lol

Obviously this draft will be dictated by how the steelers finish so let's start there. W have an offense that has shown flashes behind a beat up offensive line. The defense has some holes though I think this past well was over exaggerated because of who lot us up.

The remaining schedule: Buffalo (home), Detroit (home), Cleveland (away), Baltimore (away), Miami (home), Cincinnati (home), Green Bay (away), Cleveland (home).

How the steelers finish will depend on whether they stay together our fall apart. 5 home games, obviously ask winnable, well, because its a home game. 2 road games against rivals blood bath style. I think the steelers are probably going to miss the playoffs considering a 7 and 1 finish could still leave them on the outside looking in. Hell finishing perfect could do that. More wins lowers the chance out a can't miss draft pick. No matter where the steelers pick though if there's a protected 1st round left tackle he must be taken. No question. After that:

If tackle isn't priority because there's still faith in Gilbert and Adams then an impact receiver for Ben must be taken.

Depth at linebacker and corner back are in order. Mostly outside linebacker. Corner back speaks for itself. Should've done whatever possible to keep Lewis. So I rank it a this.

OT or WR
WR or OLB
CB
OL
DL

How many picks do the steelers have?

guarantee, how they finish dictates everything, but drafting mike evans (even though he would look awesome in black and gold), would be a terrible mistake having so many glaring holes on an aging defense!!!

We draft teegre.

Then we get our seventh ring all on optimism, just like the Commish wants when he puts new rules into place where there are no tackles.

we need a mean linebacker. we had Lloyd, Porter, Harrison, and now no mean LB. That can wait a few years though. Maybe Vince Williams will be that guy?

What we need in the mean-time is a true 3-4 NT and a CB on defense. We also need a LT on offense.

EDIT: The CB can also be mean, but not the NT. The NT has to be jolly.

That made me chuckle.

Joking aside. I see that we agree on positions: LT, NT, CB... and a mean LB (who may or may not already be on the roster).

Biggest need? LT. But not a fan of picking one in the first round right now. As bad as Gilbert and Adams have been I think the problem is more coaching right now and I don't think a top 5-10 pick LT is going to do any better than those two until serious coaching change to the line/offense is made.

The defense needs a PLAYMAKER. An ILB, a CB, a S, a NT, anybody. There are no playmakers. Everybody's "solid" but nobody's spectacular.

A #1 WR like Mike Evans would be awesome too. Again, no playmakers on offense sans Ben. Brown is a decent #2 - #3 WR that is barely passing as a #1 right now. A Mike Evans or Sammy Watkins can take over a game, Brown can't.

If we do finish bad enough to have a shot at a QB the idea of Mariota is really intriguing me. It pains me because I love Ben, and I don't think he's as "done" as many others do, but at the same time I think the window for him to win a championship here has just about closed, and if we're picking high enough to select a potential franchise QB like Mariota that could open up a new window for the next decade I don't think we should pass on it and hope we can do so later on. It would suck to "usher Ben out" if he's not totally done but when you look at the holes this team has it might be a better idea to totally start over than spend the next couple years trying to patch holes to right the ship for Ben only to have him retire before that process is complete and be left without a QB.
