11.5 sacks on the season for Kareem. Roughly one third of them came against the game @ Pittsburgh, however, when he registered 3.5.

I have seen this quote a few times and I am not going to argue its accuracy.

However, when it comes to the Steelers's defense, I also go by the eye test and in 2013 the Steelers were absolutely horrible against the run.

I am sure McLendon was not on the field for all those long runs RBs routinely had against the defense.

However, as the NT in a 3 - 4 defense, he inherently gets a great deal of the blame.

Besides, McLendon got fairly good pressure against the QB from the NT position suggesting he could be a good DE.

With the severe problems the Steelers had rushing the passer, he would be a welcomed addition to the DE corps.

And the rapid improvement of Cam Heyward made this past season, could make McLendon even more effective as a DE.

The 2014 draft is not very deep at the NT position and Louis Nix is widely regarded as the best run stuffing NT. .

Conversely, it is very deep at WR and in the secondary meaning the Steelers could get good value at those positions in Rd 2 and beyond.

For that reason, Louis Nix III should be the pick.

At the beginning of the season? yeah but thats because of poor DE play and poor tackling from the LBs and DBs, Not McLendon fault. Giving up the big plays earlier in the season is the reason why we are the 21st ranked run defense(not McLendon fault)

how is he the problem then?

Yeah you could say that but when stats show thats teams average 2.ypc when McLendon is on the field shows he shouldn't be blamed.

Besides, McLendon got fairly good pressure against the QB from the NT position suggesting he could be a good DE.

If he could play DE why wasn't he on the field in sub packages?

With the severe problems the Steelers had rushing the passer, he would be a welcomed addition to the DE corps.

Justin Ellis from LA Tech is pretty damn good. I wouldn't be surprised if he shoots up the draft boards after the combine. Some people/experts said he could run a 4.9 40

Conversely, it is very deep at WR and in the secondary meaning the Steelers could get good value at those positions in Rd 2 and beyond.

I agree on WR. But Calvin Pryor(Safety) & Dennard(CB) are worth the 15th pick IMO

For that reason, Louis Nix III should be the pick.

A guy who has knee problems and wasn't even dominate at ND. remember in the NC game between Alabama and ND where Barret Jones(was known for not having pure strength) took Nix 1 on 1 and completely made him invisible, that dont seem like a 3-4 NT to me.

I'm not saying the position couldn't be upgraded and that goes for any other position on the defense but wasting a 1st round pick on a guy who doesn't even play like a 3-4 NT is useless, I've said this before but drafting a punter in the 1st is the same value as drafting a 2 down player who plays a position that can be forced off the field when offense spread us out. If this was Dontari Poe we was talking about who is a freak of an athlete and can play 3 downs then maybe I would agree on taking him in the 1st, but its not.

Ryan Carrethers a NT prospect(rd 4-5) from Arkansas State, favorite player is no other than Casey Hampton

And its also been said by @ jimwexell that the Steelers don't seem too interested in ILBs, but the Steelers show Interest In D-Ends

Martavis Bryant is 6'5, 200 lbs. and is a faster, better route runner. He could be available in round 2.

He's my current second round pick.

As a Clemson fan I would be beyond happy if we draft Bryant but my only concerns about him is that he has inconsistent hands, but he has a lot of upside.

I want this kid. He's had a great combine so far and he's been catching balls from guys like Matthews, Bortles and McCarron. Imagine what Ben could do with him?

Tbh just the thought of Bryant lined up with Brown & Wheaton gets me excited. So much speed and great route running from 3 WRs would be unstoppable. Plus Bryant is a great red zone threat
