Post Houston Texans Release Ed Reed

Texans to cut Ed Reed

Updated: November 12, 2013, 1:02 PM ET
ESPN.com news services

The Houston Texans are releasing safety Ed Reed on Tuesday, a source confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The news had been earlier reported by The Houston Chronicle and KRIV-TV.

Reed, who was the Texans' prize acquisition of the offseason, said Sunday night after Houston's loss to the Arizona Cardinals that the Texans had been outcoached.

Asked Monday about Reed's criticism, interim coach Wade Phillips said: "Everyone has an opinion. I'll keep mine in house."

Reed seemed to acknowledge his release in a tweet on Tuesday.

The guy is ready to use a walker - another savvy signing by the Texans

Donnie Shell would be a more productive signing than Reed

Assuming the Texans can handle the PR blowback from firing a head coach who just had a TIA it is time to clean house in Houston

It sucks that he's a shell of his former self, but at least the Ravens aren't overpaying for his "talents." I've been really liking James Ihedigbo up until he knocked that Hail Mary straight up in the air.

That's what happens when you talk shit about the coaches after the game. You hold yourself accountable. Now you're out of a job.

*Insert post saying he would look great in black and gold for vet minimum here.*

Wins are a team statistic, not a quarterback statistic.

Winning big will not earn a team two wins, nor will winning ugly give a team only half a win.

I've been saying for 3 years that Ed Reed was finished. He's a hollow shell of his former self. Just watching him get up off the ground on the field after a tackle looks sad. Any team who picks him up will get no real help from him at this stage in his career.

A hallowing glimpse of what may lie ahead for Troy in the not-too-distant future.
