Default Key piece to a playoff birth/run

Our offense played well today. The best they have looked all season. We should celebrate that and be happy but there is still a stat I can't get over. We were 1 out of 4 in the Redzone once again. That number has got to improve. One time we had a first and goal from the 1 no?

Our offense has stepped up in every phase and our D is starting to pull in some turnovers on top of simply being good already. Now we just need to get some of these points and finally we can be in the discussion late in the season.

Indeed.

I have mentioned this for a few weeks, but with a slightly different "take" on the situation.

Step 1: Get to the red-zone (first half).

Step 2: Turn one FG per game into a TD (current).

Step 3: Turn two FGs per game into TDs (by season's end).

I agree and we are going to have to find ways to get it in the end zone. A few dropped passes, a blown wide open pass from Ben and a running game that lost yardage in obvious short yardage situation and it adds up to points left on the field that we could of used,(if not for the turnaround by the defense in the 2nd half.) Haley is going to have to incorporate a FB in those short yardage plays, more double TE, (don't know if Spaeth could catch one, maybe use Johnson more), resort to some trickery, anything to get it in. As the field shrinks so does the spacing for your receivers and that is when you need physical wideouts more than ever. Ben tried to hit some of those quick slanters near the goalline and the DBs, LBers were all over them and we were lucky some of those batted balls were not intercepted. A run game and spacing would help a ton.

when in the red zone the play calling is just horrible. people need to understand how bad todd hayley is causing many aspects of this team to suffer

Remember they had a dropped TD by Heath, a dropped TD by Bell, and an overthrow by Ben. So all three of their "misses" were inches away from being successes. Just the littlest difference in execution.

Don't forget the drop in the end zone by Antonio Brown as well. It was as easy a catch as he's ever going to have too.

They could have put up a ton of points in this one if they cleaned up a few mistakes. I'll take 37 every time though!

Stupid yinzer!!! 37 points is for losers!!! I want a minimum of 75 points per week!!!

Really though, the missed TD to Paulson and the drop by AB is eight points left on the field. They are that close to breaking through. If they can just turn one more FG into a TD per game, they'd be a very good offense.

I believe the playcalling in the redzone was really good. The execution was just mediocre. They tried Bell with running on the one twice. Tried with Dwyer also, didn't work. Passed to AB that was catchable. Pass to Heath which was harder but definitely doable by Heath. Then the drop pass by Bell, slightly behind, but it was right between his hands. What's the saying? If your hands touch it, you should be able to catch it?

Ben has at least 6 TD passes today if not 7 if execution was there. Play calls in the red zone were not an issue today. First time all year.
