I legitimately don't think that anyone was calling Ike lazy because of his being black. Laziness is an easy way to explain a player's lackluster play.

Stereotyping and racism make no sense. It was actually my Steelers fandom that first allowed me to realize it.

So often, I would read about "Steelers fans are" this and "Steelers fans are" that. However, when I would read such a comment, I would think: "This person has never met me. How can he make a statement about an entire group which I belong to?" If you attended a game and Heinz Field and just happened to sit next to two idiot Steelers fans who were drunk, obnoxious, and rude, does it really make sense to extrapolate that experience to millions of others? The same rule applies for an overly positive experience (although this is obviously less harmful).

This is why sentences like: "I hate (group)," or "(Group) are (descriptor)," should never be spoken. It legitimately makes no sense.

I still think there's no excuse even if you grew up around lots of a specific group. Even if you happen to be someone like Eminem, who grew up in a ghetto around almost exclusively black people, I don't see why that means you can now generalize the entire race. You still haven't met all of the others who have been entrenched in different circumstances than those you have encountered.

Anyways, at the end of the day, the only colors that matter to me are black and gold. I don't care if it's a black QB, a white RB, a Hispanic LB, or an Asian CB, I will root for him so long as he wears that logo on the right side of his helmet.

it must be white then since Ben has been referred to as being lazy and a slacker and not studying film enough and sulking because his buddy Bruce Arians was fired...
You are either ignorant (in the original meaning of the word) or you are being intentionally obtuse. Try googling "historical stereotyping of african americans as lazy" and educate yourself. This has been a pejorative used concerning African Americans since pre-civil war days. Using some anecdote about Ben being called lazy does not overturn 200 years of racial stereotyping.

I am not saying the person using the slur was necessarily racist. However, "lazy" is a pejorative term that has been used to dehumanize African Americans in this country for over 2 centuries. You can't act like that history is meaningless. I'm no political correctness freak, but in this case, I think some sensitivity about the term demonstrates class and humanity.

You do realize you just lost all credibility in this discussion and would have failed if you used that tactic in a freshman debate class?

You must be a freshman then?

I think you are reaching here.

Whoever called ike lazy is simply a dumbass.

There are plenty of people here who will call any player lazy if they don't live up to their SB/All pro expectations regardless of color.

those people have absolutely no clue of individual players work ethics.

We call those people "clueless".

Woah... wait...

I'm not sure is JeromeBetties is saying that other posters are calling black people lazy... or, if JeromeBetties is the one calling black people lazy... or, if JeromeBetties inadvertently came off as racist, while trying to defend Ike... or, if JeromeBetties thinks Ike is lazy...

All I want to know is:
When did TAPES18N1 start posting in this discussion???

WTF!?! @this thread

I started this thread complimenting Ike. The haters came on and started bashing him and bashing him and bashing him (which they are clueless and dead wrong about).three or four posts in a row used language that people of education and class usually stay away from when describing people of African American descent because of the historical connotations of 200 years of prejudicial language. It's really not that hard to understand. People are now acting willfully ignorant or deflecting through projection. Again, a simple google of the topic will begin your education process. Why not be willing to say to yourself, "Maybe there is something here I didn't know about?" That's what intellectually curious people do. Then you won't continue to come off as an oaf.
