There's disadvantages to hawaii as well though.

2nd worst traffic in the nation, and probably highest cost of living here. We're talking like 400k for a decent apartment, forget getting a house unless you can afford close to $1M. I never thought I'd be making 80k a year and feeling poor, but paradise has a price tag lol.

indeed ...in 96-97 , the company i worked for sent me to hawaii to work on the H-3 tunnel. i was there for about 8 months and on a salary deal for 5k a month plus a 500 dollar a month per diem check. had they not paid for my apartment and rental car , i would have left there with less than i had when i got there.
the rental car was $270.00 a week (chevy lumina) and i believe the place i stayed was $1200 a month. i lived in this building...
http://www.trulia.com/property/30501...neohe-HI-96744

it was ok but nothing special. at the time a similiar apartment i had in DC was $700 a month.
for the amount of time i rented the car they could have just bought the damn thing and resold it for half price when i left and saved money. 8 x 1080 = $8640...it only had about 20,000 miles on it.

Grew up in Mansfield, Ohio, home of the Mansfield Tygers. Live in Bellville now, just a few minutes outside of Mansfield, and I've pretty much lived in or near Mansfield my entire life. If you happen to visit Mansfield (for what reason, I have no idea), don't let it's title as "The fun center of Ohio" fool you. There's absolutely nothing to do here.

Outside of some of it's history as a city (Shawshank Redemption and several other movies were filmed here) it's really nothing special. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, though, and I do love it here. Go Tygers!

I want in on this action. I'm Bedivere and you're King Arthur remember?

As for me, I'm from Norwalk, Iowa. Home of the Norwalk Warriors. Born in Des Moines and raised in Norwalk all of my life until I ran off for college, got into my career field, and got married. Love Norwalk, always will. It holds a special place in my heart. Wasn't a huge town by any means when I was growing up but it's turning into a suburb of Des Moines so it's much bigger than it ever was when I lived there. Lots of new housing developments, and a LOT of commercial businesses moving in. I remember it was all just corn fields (LAUGH it up big state city folk) across from my parents house, and now it's all new housing. It's amazing what a few years can do for the development of a city.

Still love me some Warrior football. Miss my high school football days, hanging out with my buddies, scooping the loop in Des Moines. Those were the good old days....

Your Mayor is a crackhead Jon? Try this one on for size. We had a D.A.R.E. Officer on the Norwalk P.D. that got fired after it was determined that it was he who was responsible for the drugs that were coming up missing from the evidence room. So the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Officer was stealing and abusing drugs... LOL. Ultimately though, every town has it's skeletons.

I was sent to Kansas, by my birth parents, when I was an infant.

I grew up, and eventually moved to a Metropolis.
