but to call him one of the greatest human beings to ever lived when he killed hundreds of innocents is putting him on a pedestal. not trying to diminish from the good he did, just want to keep both eyes open

ps i dont want this to sound argumentative or douchey or self righteous or anything, just wanted to make those who were unaware aware of him before everyone got ahead of themselves. and its always great to pay attention to the entire story when reflecting on history. glad this opened a discusion to a degree :)

He was a politician, and evidently there is only so much you can ask of that species. I think Mandela reached the upper echelons of what one can expect from a leader in terms of integrity and humanity. Apartheid was such a brutal system that it's a testament to his character that he was recognizably human in the least, let alone apparently humble and well-grounded by most accounts.
