Baltimore and Indy would probably need to be swapped too... geographically speaking.

Come to think of it, if we're talking re-alignment we can combine that discussion with 'playoff seeding' as such:

Just have four divisions (ala the 'new' NHL)

West:
AZ
DEN
KC
OAK
SD
SF
SEA
STL

East:
BAL
BUF (or PIT)
CAR
NE
NYJ
NYG
PHI
WAS

South:
ATL
DAL
HOU
JAX
MIA
NO
TB
TEN

North:
CHI
CIN
CLE
DET
IND
GB
MIN
PIT (or BUF)

Not sure how to split the conferences, but... the top four/division winners get a 'bye'.

Seeding for the final eight teams then goes by record.

We'd see fewer, if any, 8-8 playoff teams then.

Yeah, it took some tweaking (and a helpful Wiki map of the teams) to get it 90% correct in my last post.

Sweet map

I like how Dallas is an extreme outlier.

The 'central' (KC/STL) and Texas are outliers in general.

CIN, PIT, BUF, CAR, and TEN make for interesting geographical distinctions as well.

BUF is further N than CIN, but more E (ditto for PIT/BUF).

TEN looks more N than CAR, but CAR is more E.

DAL/HOU more W than KC/STL, but certainly more S.

Nothing's perfect and there's some pull in a few directions, but most re-alignments would fix the flaws of the current system (specifically DAL and MIA being 'East').

Not a bad idea, but there's still the talk of two more teams on the horizon.

was it two more teams or different locations? specially JAX = LA and I've also heard Buffalo going to Toronto for about 15 years now although OKC deserves 1 before Toronto - although that isn't as far off as London (2020) and Tokyo (2030)
