Default Steelers on Rise or Decline?

2012- Steelers are 6-3 before Ben gets hurt. Ends up 8-8 , losing 3 of last 4.

2013 Preseason - 0-4

2013 Season - Starts 0-4

2013 Season - goes 8-4 rest of way finishing 8-8.

Steelers were blown out twice vs Bears and Patriots. No other loss by more than 10pts.

This team could have easily won 10 games.

Who is really to blame and can we expect better or worse next year?

I think the offense will get better, but I expect the defense to decline a bit further. Too many older veterans will probably be replaced by rookies or free agents. If they are not, then they will only be one year older with further diminished skills.

Hopefully I am wrong and the defense turns it around to match what the offense has the potential to become.

A few good moves and we're on the upswing. But it could easily go the other way.

We need to fix our pass rush.
We need to FINALLY get our O line to play as a unit (started to at the end of this season).
We need to start replacing our secondary with three starters averaging age 33.

I expect the Steelers to get rid of:

Keisel
Clark
Taylor
Woodley
Foote

Hopefully they can find some guys who can fill in competently while they search for their long-term successors.

The Steelers could be on the rise offensively depending on a solid draft, the Rush number fell from 110ypg to the mid 90s( from 24th to 28th). Bell is a dependable back who will only get better with time. The Steelers have a great QB and a middle of the pack WR group that will might lose Sanders in the offseason. If Teddy Bridgewater was available in the draft the Steelers would be insane to pass him up, the addition of a guy like Bridgewater would make the Steelers so dangerous. As for Defense a pass rusher (I'd love to see Donald from Pitt) and a couple of good CBs would put the defense in the right direction. It would be great to imagine a Rise next year but a decline seems like the direction this team is heading
