Default New Year Forum...

With the new year approaching question for the board....

Has this board actually changed anyones thinking on anything? lol.

I've only been around a couple months and it's nice to talk football with you guys...well most of you.

But something I've noticed is the same people saying the same things.

Most of us seem to find an opinion and then just lock on and close our minds to any facts presented by anyone else.

Hell if it was upto me, we'd of never selected Ben, I remember abusing FO for that selection...durrr.

Here's to wishing you all a great New Year and I think my new year resolutions will be listening to everyone's points with a open mind (even to the wife)....but I can't promise I'll agree...(especially with the wife).

There are people on here that I trust and am always learning from. Then there are assholes who just suck the life out of everything that I just get a laugh out of. I guess there's a little of both.

happy new year!

It's the problem with forums, really. As I've said in a few posts before, I've been a regular member of quite a few forums, so I've noticed a lot of patterns in that time.

The few (comparatively, to their respective fanbases) that tend to come to these kinds of sites tend to be the vocal minority. The great thing about this forum, is that there are so many millions of Steelers and NFL fans that we get all sorts of varying opinions and trains of thought.

Since we can pick apart opposing views and arguments more easily, as well as effectively "get away" with saying anything due to our "anonymity" (it's in quotes for a reason, guys), people tend to be more closed-minded in my experience. Since we can set ourselves up as effectively any personality we want to have- hell, I'm a great example here- many forum users, especially the ones who have realized you have the entire universe at your fingertips with Google, will become "experts" and "tough guys" when they're usually not either one of those things.

Disclaimer:

I really am Bane.

Fortunately, this forum has arguably the best group of users I've had the chance to interact with. It's definitely the most fun one I've joined yet.

This board has changed my perception that man is no match for machine by watching Galax out post-whore Feed Robot and forcing FR to self-destruct.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I have seen specific points that people have changed their mind on but not sure about the bigger picture of those debates. I like it though. If everyone agreed or agreed to easily it wouldn't be any fun.

Happy New Year.

I enjoy coming on here to read what other Steeler fans have to say. Sometimes their thinking causes me to look at games, plays, situations, etc. from a different perspective. I very much enjoy that. I also like being a part of a forum of individuals who share an interest in the Steelers! As a matter of fact, I've been on here much more frequently over the past 6 months than when I first joined. You guys have made a difference! Cheers.

Happy New Year to you all!

I think the reason you see a lot of people saying the same things is because so many things are regurgitated ad nauseum, but thus is the way of message boards. Look no further than all the Mike Wallace threads.

Happy New Year!

The problem with any board is repetition, over reaction and 'preaching to the choir'. This is sports, after all!

What I will say is that I do not spend time on message boards to change other's opinions or have mine changed (although either may occur), but to 'vent', merely discuss matters or, on rarer occasions, bask in victory (boy is that sweet!). It's catharsis [and it works on some levels].

Also, I will say that overhearing some opinions gives me proper perspective on others, be they IRL or in internet form.

It's good to know that sometimes you aren't quite as 'demented' as others (and other times far more 'demented' than others will ever be!).

Happy New Year!
