If Jarvis Jones commits to training hard, getting stronger, learning his craft like he says he will, there should be no reason why he cannot take the next step for us next year. Man, I remember when Troy was drafted, people were saying he's a bust. By the way, how did that turn out??!! He already shows flashes and they did say he had his best game in week 17. People don't understand. The NFL is a MAN's league. When you are coming out of college, it's not often that a player dominates right away, unless that player is truly a special player. That's not to say that JJ will not be that but 8 or 9 times out of 10, it takes that player 1-3 seasons to reach his full potential. If he is still struggling after his 3rd season, then we can say we missed on a first rounder, just like we did with David Decasto!!!(kidding of course).

No big deal. As for Jones, I hope he doesn't add to much muscle. His agility, acceleration and speed is his greatest weapon.

If he wants to be Harrison go for it. One of Harrison's biggest weaknesses was speed. It hurt his stock coming out of college. Measurements, combines, nobody measured his heart.

How much heart does JJ have to go with that talent?

Excellent point. Jones needs to work more on explosive power than putting on muscle mass. Work on the explosiveness and technique, learn the playbook inside and out, get on the field and make plays. I'd love to see him do stuff like Ziggy Hood does in the offseason, or Taylor.

What he doesn't need to do is start lifting like a power lifter. I really don't worry about how much he bench presses. Lifts like that isolate all the work to one muscle.

Sounds good, we need this guy to be a weapon

I saw him running to catch up to the runner way too much because he was constantly trying to run around blocks...

Hopefully he can add that strength and have a respectable power game so that he can keep blockers guessing which will also make his speed rush better as well

I always hear a lot about how strong Ziggy is. Jones should hang out with him this off season.

Sorry but speed is not a weapon he has. He's actually slow, who was the slow footed qb that ran away from him this season. He's not a physical specimen in anyway his biggest thing is his motor

I have a hypothesis: I think you could plug about any linebacker into LeBeau's scheme and he will become at least a serviceable starter, if not a Pro Bowl-level player.

Starting Steelers LB's under LeBeau/Capers
Jerrol Williams (4th rounder)
Hardy Nickerson (5th rounder)
David Little (7th rounder)
Greg Lloyd (6th rounder)
Kevin Greene (5th rounder)
Levon Kirkland (2nd rounder)
Chad Brown (2nd rounder)
Jason Gildon (3rd rounder)
Jerry Olsavsky (10th rounder)
Clark Haggans (5th rounder)
James Farrior (1st rounder)
Larry Foote (4th rounder)
Joey Porter (3rd rounder)
James Harrison (UFA)
LaMarr Woodley (2nd rounder)
Lawrence Timmons (1st rounder)
Jarvis Jones (1st rounder)
Jason Worilds (2nd rounder)

This isn't to diminish these guys' accomplishments at all. But it would appear that the 3-4 scheme that LeBeau runs seems to be able to, for whatever reason, make stars of just about anybody. All of the guys I listed had Steelers careers that most would consider at least "good." Some of them, great.

he's slow? Do you even watch the games, or do you just look at combine numbers?

derp derp derp.

Do you watch the games. Yes he's very slow he couldn't run around a tackle once all year. A slow qb ran away from him and gapped him. He's also not athletic he has no moves and is weak. A brilliant pick he was horrible this year no way around it. He has a long way to go to be a serviceable player. The biggest reason the defense is going backwards is our entire line backing crew is average at best. When was the last time you could say that about the steelers. We've always had atleast one top guy we don't have any now. This defense is designed for linebackers jones will never be worth the pick take it to the bank.
