Default Jim Caldwell to interview with Detroit Lions, Redskins

Jim Caldwell to interview with Detroit Lions, Redskins

Jim Caldwell deserves plenty of credit for helping the Ravens win a Super Bowl last season. That Baltimore title run didn't net a head-coaching gig at the time, but the offensive coordinator is generating some interest for 2014.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Caldwell will interview with both the Detroit Lions and Washington Redskins for their coaching vacancies, via sources informed of their plans.

Caldwell's Super Bowl pedigree extends beyond last season. In his last stint at the helm of an NFL team, he guided the Indianapolis Colts to the mountaintop in 2009, only to lose Super Bowl XLIV to the New Orleans Saints. Caldwell was fired by the organization after three seasons and a 26-22 regular-season record that ended poorly when his Peyton Manning-free Colts squad tumbled to 2-14.

This is surprising considering how poorly the Ravens offense was this year. Although, the O-line never recovered from the loss of Kelechi Osemele, and Michael Oher is garbage.

at least Oher had a movie made off of him, although I've never seen it and suspect the movie is garbage as well.

It was certainly your typical feel-good sports movie. Nothing special (besides the actual footage of Oher being drafted at the very end)

I can't help but think the Whiz is more in the Lions' crosshairs, for HC.

Based on the assumption that is the only reason a retread head coach gets an interview, what is your explanation for Eric Mangini getting another HC job after he crashed with the Jets?

A former HC who was not a total disaster usually gets another shot (along with a former HC like Mangenius who was a total disaster)

If Caldwell takes the hit for the mess of an offense this year I guess he also can claim some credit for the championship run last season after Cameron walked the plank
