Brandon Coleman*, WR, Rutgers

Height: 6-6. Weight: 220.
Projected 40 Time: 4.59.
Projected Round (2013): 2-3.

12/21/13: The biggest question about Coleman is if he has enough speed for the NFL. The senior started out this season with nine receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns against Fresno State. Coleman has been quiet since then, and many believe a preseason knee injury has slowed him down. He has 31 receptions for 459 yards with three touchdown receptions in 2013. Coleman decided to enter the 2014 NFL Draft, but he should have returned to Rutgers.

8/3/13: Coleman is a massive receiver who looks like a tight end. He has been very consistent for Rutgers and has produced while playing in a running offense. Coleman led Rutgers with 43 receptions for 718 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2012. He led Rutgers with 663 receiving yards on 39 receptions with 10 touchdowns the year before, too. The biggest question about Coleman will be if he has enough speed to be a high draft pick.

Personal: Labor studies major.

Mike evans is the only WR I would want round 1. He is huge and can win any jump ball. He is a luxury pick that would make our offense potent but in actuality we have bigger needs on defense and cant afford to take a top WR. We need a NT, saftey or ILB round 1

as for Coleman, I like him but someone will draft him earlier then they should

finding a player like this might be the way to go. We aren't looking for the next Calvin Johnson, we would never be able to keep him and Brown. We need somebody who would compliment what Brown does.

If speed (or lack of) is the issue, maybe he should be considered a project at TE.
He's described as massive.....sounds more like a TE than WR.
How does his 40 time stack up against today's big time TE's?

I would like the Steelers to take Allen Robinson in the second instead and take a defensive player like Justin Gilbert in the first.

2014 NFL Draft: Matt Miller's Scouting Notebook for Wild Card Weekend

Five Down

4. WR Brandon Coleman, Rutgers

As the wide receiver crop increases due to junior entries, Brandon Coleman's projected draft slot continues to drop.

The big Rutgers wide receiver didn't enjoy his best season in 2013. Some of that can be chalked up to bad quarterback play, but Coleman also didn't show the same level of explosiveness or aggression in his routes this fall. At 6'5" and 220 pounds, teams will respect what Coleman can do against off-coverage and in space, but he's a more limited player than a Sammy Watkins or Allen Robinson because of his lack of speed and flexibility.
