Based on the salaries of quarterbacks that are not as good as him, he should make at least $20 mil a year. I hope Ben takes less to give the team an opportunity to put more talent around him. I'm thinking a slightly longer contract. Maybe 6 years $110 million. The longer contract gives the Steelers the opportunity to keep Ben at an attractive price longer, if his health is good and he continues to perform at a high level. It also tells Ben that they want him to end his career in Pittsburgh....where it should.

although that'd never happen, i can't help but love the idea of pay based on production. players would have an incentive to not take plays off

give ben 20 million this year and pay woodley the vet minimum. or switch what lamarr 'earned' this year with worilds

Which, in effect, waters down the rest of the roster money. Which means the difference between first and second tier skill positions is increased, as big names will make big money. So there are a few big names, making big money. So, what does a "second tier" guy do who outperforms a "first tier" guy?

This will get interesting. In retrospect, tt is obvious Flacco is way overpaid (but at the same time, I am an advocate of something is worth what someone will pay). Baltimore fans blame his receivers, the line, the schemes, etc. but no way, after this season, is he worth that money. They are stuck.

I think shorter contracts are coming, with other incentives to keep players around. Or cap salaries. Who knows, either the league, or the market will level the field.

Hopefully Ben looks at what Flaccid did in B-More and realizes if he wants all the money, then he will have to deal with the entire team being let go. Hopefully he goes the route of Tom Brady and works with the team to keep them flexible to continue to compete.

I agree this should be a possibility. All Ben has to do is think about the beginning of this season compared to the end of the season. Remember the difference between how frustrated and beat up he was in the beginning. He already has a lot of money. He's going to have to decide if the money is worth it.

He's gonna get a huge contract, no doubt about it. For a top level QB, he's been playing for a very reasonable contract price the last few years. All talk about him sacrificing pay for the team is bunk and fan fantasy (I'll gladly eat my words if I'm wrong mind you.) Ben, his agent and the steelers all know he's as good as the QBs like flacco or cutler getting massive contracts, so he's going to get one too.

Would be great, only problem is the owners are just as money hungry as the players. Play the season and depend on the owners to pay "fair" value based on incentive when nothing is under contract. Or play half a season and have a career ending injury and get squat. I know the players get paid enormous amounts but the owners have been paid better and for longer. I do not feel sorry for either side when it takes agents/lawyers to reach agreements. Owners have no one to blame for sky rocketing player salaries, when players like Wallace can sign a contract like his recent one as a free agent.
