Yep - who doesn't love the smell of spilled beer and vomit during the 4th quarter?

It smells like ... victory

The impression I get from American sports is everyone drives to the game? Here in London I would never ever drive to a sporting event, no one does because it means you spend the entire day going to and from. We have pretty good public transport, I've been to Chicago and it's pretty similar in terms of coverage. What's Pittsburgh like? I hop on the train back from Arsenal and even though it's heaving I get back in 35 minutes. Non match days from the same station would be about 20.

The other thing with soccer is you can't drink in the stands, so beer money doesn't factor in. Cricket is expensive and there you can drink (all day) so you basically set aside what you pay for a ticket again for your drinks in the ground. 100 for an England game I would imagine would get you 10 rounds. For 8 hours that's probably par for the course. People still go but it's (usually) a day in the sun, not the snow and the cold.

I guess the only way is to make it as easy as possible for season ticket holders to sell on their tickets at face value to other fans? Although watching the Steelers this year people seem to start leaving in the second quarter, which I can't really understand.

Tickets can be sold on the secondary market web sites for less than face value - the problem is if that is the price point almost nobody wants the tickets at any price

With tickets for individual games for virtually any seat being easily available if you are willing to pay the price it is hard for me to see how filling the seats primarily through season tickets is not going to be an increasingly hard sell for more teams

In Pittsburgh, you can be way far away and walk across bridges to get to the stadium/ball park. If you like walking, you can get exercise and save a lot of parking cash.

For me, not really. Live football is a fun experience, but the cost is exorbiant. I can make better food and buy better drinks at home for a fraction of the cost all while enjoying the game and socializing with friends anyway. Some people prefer the in person experience though, nothing wrong with that.

Depends on how extroverted you are, and how willing you are to fork over your cash.

Your experience actually depends on the other fans. If you have a great atmosphere with lots of fans none of that other stuff matters. Not the weather or where you sit or how much a drink cost. You just immerse yourself in the moment and will never match the same experience from your coach.

With the decrease in attendance I would say it isn't worth it to go unless you get seats right at the bottom and hope to get a game ball or something from a player.

Took my son to our first Steelers game at Heinz Field couldn't believe it was $40 to park about ten blocks from the stadium. Biggest ripoff ever. I need to invest in a parking garage business by professional sports stadiums, I'd be Bill Gates rich.

Nothing beats the visceral reaction of being at the game.

At was in Arizona last season, when Mike Wallace scored that 95 yard TD. The electricity was amazing. I nearly knocked my father over when I chest-bumped him... and I did indeed knock my brother-in-law on his ass.

And, I was not alone. The stadium was 45% Steelers fans, all of whom were losing their minds on that play.

Likewise, I was in attendance, in Arizona, when Jerome Bettis scored a game-winning TD in OT. The Steelers fans (60% back then) cheered for a full five minutes.

Nothing beats that.

I agree... especially the first line.

I love chatting it up with fans... and engaging in friendly banter... but, a drunk ass-hat can ruin a day.

Thankfully, I've always had great experiences.
