I am being realistic when I think of these. I think the only 2 positions The Steelers really need to look at are CB and Safety. There is enough depth at other positions. Both postions need someone young, relatively cheap, and yet experienced and able to play right away.

As for Safety I like Nate Allen (Eagles) and Major Wright (Bears). Nate Allen is consistant and started many games since his rookie season. Major Wright was all over the place this year and may command too high of a price because of it (You may have seen what he did to our team). The Bears will probably try to keep him.

As for Corner Back, I like Nolan Carroll (Dolphins) and Terrell Thomas (Giants). Carroll had a good year with solid stats (3 Int's, 12 pd's and 2 sacks). Terrell Thomas was awesome a few years ago with The Giants, but had 3 ACL surgeries in 2 years. Even so, he was a comeback player of the year finalist and had some decent stats. Thomas could be gotten for relatively cheap and may still have some solid years left.

What do you guys think about bringing in a guy like CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie? He's only 27 and has tons of talent. I always loved his ball skills, and he has done well against some very good WR in this league. He's a guy that intrigues me, because he would solidify our secondary, and add a player that has historically gotten interceptions. The question is, can he be gotten at a fair price, and would he adapt to the Steeler way of doing things and be a good teammate?

I know it depends on whether they keep Cotchery or not, but if Cotch can't be resigned, I really like Jeremy Maclin. He's coming off an injury, and he's a very talented guy with good size. He's like a more athletic version of Cotchery.

i think the steelers involvement in free agency will hinge on whether or not the steelers restructure or cut ike and troy! also effecting F/A will be whether they can retain sanders and/or cotchery! i would like to see riley cooper or doug baldwin come in if the sanders and cotch cant be retained! i would like to see t.j. ward and sam sheilds come in if ike and troy get the boot! if everyone is retained maybe some solid depth picks like robert mclain, kendrick lewis, frank zombo, doug baldwin!

Well I doubt they will be getting rid of Troy, and I think they will retain Cotch. I think they are fine at WR with the younger guys they already have and I am pretty sure Wheaton can replace Sanders. If they do not retain Ike, then they will need to get a FA CB as there is nobody else to replace him (Allen, Gay and ?). Then they can draft a Safety first to replace Troy in a year or 2 as Shamarko will be the replacement of Clark. I hope they can keep W Allen as well, he played well and will provide good knowledger for Shark. I would hope they pick up at least on FA (CB, S or LB/NT) so they won't have to draft one of those in the first 3 rounds as I think those are our biggest needs.

I think they'll only be able to do 1 FA signing this season and probably 1 more after next (ideally IMO)

+1 on Nate Allen from Eagles - I am worried about CB too but not as much as safety.

I am curious why you are worried about Safety? I think with Shark, Troy and most likely bring back W Allen on the cheap we should be fine? Unless you don't think we will bring Troy back.

one problem with a FA on a team that goes so deep into the playoffs, is he might be looking for a lot of money. It would be nice.

I'll be honest, Nate Allen from the Eagles caught my eye as well.

March 11th, and then the draft is May 8-10th.

both these guys look pretty good. a little worried about Thomas' knee injuries, but he played in all 16 games this season.
