Bill Belichick has coached the Patriots for 14 seasons now. Here's how the last seven seasons compare with the first seven seasons...

Record

2000-2006: 70-42 (.625)
2007-2013: 88-24 (.786)

Best single-season record

2000-2006: 14-2 (2003, 2004)
2007-2013: 16-0 (2007)

Worst single-season record

2000-2006: 5-11 (2000)
2007-2013: 10-6 (2009)

Points scored per game

2000-2006: 23.0
2007-2012: 30.9

Points allowed per game

2000-2006: 18.1
2007-2013: 19.6

Playoff appearances

2000-2006: 5
2007-2013: 6

Points scored per playoff game

2000-2006: 25.3
2007-2013: 25.7

Points allowed per playoff game

2000-2006: 18.6
2007-2013: 21.7

AFC Championship Game appearances

2000-2006: 4
2007-2013: 4

AFC championships

2000-2006: 3
2007-2013: 2*

(*: Subject to change.)

Super Bowl championships

2000-2006: 3
2007-2013: 0*

(*: Subject to change.)

Playoff record

2000-2006: 12-2
2007-2013: 6-5*

(*: Subject to change.)

Since 2007, the Patriots have gotten worse on defense, but better on offense. If their film sessions made such a difference, then why hasn't the offense gotten worse as well? It wasn't simply the opponents' offensive signals being stolen. Why hasn't their record outside the Super Bowl gotten worse? If they make it to Super Bowl XLVIII, then they will have been to as many Super Bowls since 2007 as they'd been to between 2000 and 2006. Their record in AFC playoff games was 9-2 between 2000 and 2006; since 2007 it's been 6-3. Only the Ravens have won more playoff games in the AFC in that period of time.

As for the Super Bowls themselves, only two plays are the difference between 0-2 and 2-0: David Tyree's miraculous desperation catch on third down in Super Bowl XLII, and Wes Welker's drop on third down in Super Bowl XLVI. Those things didn't happen because the Patriots didn't have video; they happened because of great concentration by Tyree, and poor concentration by Welker. It's time to get over the goddamn conspiracy theories and persecution complexes here. Correlation does not imply causation.

Likewise, they are also three FGs away from being 0-3 in their first three SuperBowls.

If taping signals and walkthroughs gave them no advantage what-so-ever then why did they take the risk in doing it in the first place? Also I'm sure they are still filming walkthroughs and practices. After all McDaniels did admit to doing it in Denver after Spygate. I'm sure he knew that he could still get away with it. He did learn from the best cheater in the NFL.

Just when I thought my hatred had dissipated you give me this reminder. Funny enough, I remember as a kid watching him play high school football at Aliquippa - it was the first and last time my school had actually beat them and it was for the division - I want to say this was around 1992 or 1993. What is hilarious is how hometown guys go play for other NFL teams (see Brandon Marshall - always wanted to be a Steeler - wouldn't have that been nice?) and put that fondness aside. Millions of dollars and oh yea, SB rings will do that for you.

I'm still waiting for the Steelers to get a crack at Marsha in the playoffs - at this point though they don't fear me as much as they used to. I will die still wanting them to beat Rodney Harrison, Bruschi, Law's, Branch's, Vrabel's asses in the AFC champ game. They're lucky it wasn't Ben Year 2 - all I got to say about that.
