Default Art Rooney II wants Troy Polamalu to retire a Steeler

Que the haters.

Quote:
The future of safety Troy Polamalu is one of the biggest questions facing the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason. Many observers expect Polamalu to be released, but team president Art Rooney II expects Polamalu to stay.

"How we structure or restructure (Polamalu's contract) is something we will look at in the next few months," Rooney said Wednesday, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "There are a lot of pieces to the puzzle, but I certainly expect Troy will be one of the pieces to that puzzle. ... He's obviously been one of the great Steelers at all time."

Polamalu is scheduled to make $8.25 million in 2014, the final year of his contract. It's possible the Steelers could sign him to a new contract with extra years and a lesser average salary; Rooney said he wanted Polamalu to "retire a Steeler." It's always tricky to ask a legendary player like Polamalu to take a pay cut, but Rooney's words make us think there's a good chance a deal will get done.

If ownership expects someone to stay on the team, it usually happens.

I would love the Steelers to draft Clinton-Dix, but don't think Troy needs to be released. If they draft Dix, let him and Thomas battle it out to start at FS for the time being. Whoever is not the starter can backup both positions. In a couple years when Troy is done the other can start at SS.

Rework Troy's deal and sign Will Allen for 2 years. Plan on Sharknado to take over at FS, if he can improve in the offseason. Then can prioritize on CB, NT and OLB.

Steelers traded a draft pick to get Thomas last year. I don't see the rationale to spend a high pick on another Safety, when everybody is bashing our CB depth(for good reason).

troy will retire as our nose tackle.

he played 1 snap there last year... i think he's got the position down and ready to transition from ILB.

Oh, I agree I would much rather see them grab Dennard if he is available or a position of more immediate need rather than Clinton-Dix. However if they did take Clinton-Dix I would not be disappointed.

Right now I think Dennard is my top pick for the 1st round over anyone else.

AJRII wants Troy to retire as a Steeler and I want to own a Porsche 911

What someone wants and what they can afford are not the same - Troy will need to agree to a major pay cut if what AJRII wants is going to happen
